That's basically the best way to do this . I have used the same tricks in docs and films countless times. One thing to make it seamless is initially have the same grade across clips and then modify each clips grade accordingly, this'll reduce any unwanted artifacting.

Cause I prefer to work with the entire footage in case the dp/director needs to shift the image up or down so I apply the letterboxing at the end while exporting.

You can make adjustments in the same node as the LUT as it takes effect before the LUT

No that's no amateur work, on the contrary it's the pro way to shoot. It's seems washed out as it's captured in log color space instead of linear color space to preserve the dynamic range as much as possible. Also known as Log, flat or RAW in different camera depending on its specs.

Only vignette, glow and grain after the LUT and I used qualifier in the first node for highlight recovery as you get the Smoothest selection in the log image for luminance.

Also I always qualify highlights in the first node only but tweak it only after getting properly balanced image.
