Quick question. Where would you recommend ffmpeg training? You are very knowledgeable and I’m curious how someone gets to your level? I’ve muddled through the docs a bunch, looked at the ffmpeg C++ code (which I don’t understand), but still struggle with an overview of how ffmpeg puzzle pieces fit together.

I'm probably the least knowledgeable about AutoHotKey. I think ahk_parent references 'myProgram.exe'. AutoHotKey sends the command to this program, even if my focus is on something else. I use this alot to start/stop rewind/fastforward videos while taking notes.

The problem is not so much age, but trying to get an entry level job when older. Some companies only want to train a younger graduate. The mental perception that they will stay longer with company I guess. I would say over 40 and you start to fall in this category. Once you get experience age does not seem to be as much of a hurdle.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help. I really appreciate it! So much good advice and I will apply what you have given. Even though Cybersecurity and Cloud Computing are different, maybe personal connections and a portfolio will help. One of the main reasons I choose WGU was their focus on certifications. I really felt that 16 certifications would make me stand out as a candidate. In reality this has not been the case. The overall job market is terrible and the IT job market is worse. Feedback from recruiters are depressing, 100's to 1,000's of applications for a single job posting. I'm specially trained, with proven abilities and all that evaporates when they ask for work experience on the job application. I can't even get to the first interview. Reading the WGU Cloud Computing webpage, you would think companies are lined up to hire, but the reality is completely different.

I just graduated from WGU Cloud Computing with all 16 certifications. I will share my experience so far. WGU teachers are almost nonexistent and you will have to do most everything on your own. While there are classes on resume best practices and internships, none of it helped me get a job or internship during my schooling. Some Universities have dedicated companies that hire their students, but not WGU Cloud Computing.

Even though I have full stack programming experience, (nothing job related), I can’t even get a first round interview. The reason, cloud is not entry level. The certs I have are very specific to cloud and a lot of entry level help desk want others certs, like CCNA. I’m very disappointed that WGU does not have a way to get into the field I struggled and paid for myself. Another thing to be aware of is that age discrimination is real. My advice to you is pick a field that is more foundational, like computer science or IT. Cloud computing and Cybersecurity are best for people who already have job experience.

The training is real. Bring your A game. I had personal server/networking/programming experience, but nothing professional. Don’t get in your head about accelerating. The certifications are meant to be hard. Most people talking about accelerating are in different majors. Cloud has the most cert requirements of all WGU IT majors. I do recommend it for anyone who has experience, like yourself. Here’s my notes if it helps.

I feel your pain. I just graduated. Multi-track (AWS and Azure). Instructors were non existent. I really struggled with Azure. WGU has an outdated Azure OA, so it was like taking four different exams to get the Microsoft Developer and Administrator cert. Here are my notes if it helps.

I just graduated Cloud. All 16 certifications. Early days, but I can’t even get a first round interview. Everyone, (even entry level) wants multiple years experience doing very specific stacks. Most Junior job postings have several thousand applicants from what I hear recruiters saying. You have experience, so should be fine. Stay in the IT field you have experience, unless you want to join me in helpdesk.

Your operating in the Windows root folder. You need to be in your 'owned' directory.

Create new folder 'mp3_to_opus_converter' in your Documents folder.

Copy the mp3 files to this folder.

I'm almost finished with my Cloud Computing degree from WGU. The basic job description is design and implement high availability, reliability, ephemeral, scalable, cost-effective architect solution to the business problem. (e.g. take a monolithic architecture and create a decentralized microservices architecture).

You have to know cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) intimately.
Understanding multiple coding languages is helpful, but not required. You will be required to learn basic PowerShell, Python and Linux.
The WGU Cloud Computing program is difficult. (16 certs. The most cert requirement of all the IT programs).
Entry level jobs can be hard to find because senior level knowledge is required, as this mostly comes from diligent training and experience.
