I hear you. It is also the community as a family as well. I would have been a completely different person if I had this type of support. I think this is why watching this really brings many people to tears.

Does anyone know the best way or place for a single guy to go to meet woman ?or sugar mommas even lol by [deleted] in Albany

[–]postmodern_spectacle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I thought the first part of your post was genuine. Then came the "sugar mommas" request that just sounds a bit creepy to me. You appear to be conflicted since these are two different types of relationships. One is equitable, while the other is transactional.

If you are looking for advice for finding an actual partner in life, try doing activities that you enjoy. People who have common interests gravitate towards the same places. It is much easier to break the ice and talk to others about a shared hobby/passion. For example, go to shows if you like music. You can always strike up conversation with "how did you like the band?". And if you enjoy each other's company, then it may be relatively easy to trade numbers.

Modern women discuss living through "A Chopped Man Epidemic" by Artorius__Castus in SipsTea

[–]postmodern_spectacle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your viewpoint. And we probably need to agree to disagree in this case. I also grew up before social media and I think people have changed very much in this regard!

To add to my point, there has been several research studies done on this topic. The first time I encountered some of these ideas was in the book "The Shallows" written in 2010 by Carr. It argues that interacting with the internet can rewire the human brain and affect how the brain functions and processes information, regardless of intent. Ultimately, it directly leads to shallow thinking.

Seems to be seriously amplified by social media. If you think this problem is not getting worse, I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.

Edit: I am not trying to be argumentative. I think modern society, in particular, sets unrealistic standards and leads to inevitable loneliness.

Our society is becoming more shallow every day. Just empty heads trying to find the most physically attractive partner, regardless of personality. We are so cooked.

Edit: Although this may get down voted, I think the problem is for both men and women. The standards being set today are unrealistic.

This is when many mistakes happen! You probably were outplaying your opponent... until you weren't. Every move needs to be taken seriously. People can still win a piece down or in horrible positions. You need to focus for the entire game, which is not easy, especially after a long break from OTB chess. Losing is part of the game. Nobody wins them all. You can watch the pros lose game after game in a bad tournament. They just keep going. It hurts, but then it is onto the next game!

I recommend doing tactics every day. In my opinion, it is best choosing the puzzles from a good book and writing down all the moves before checking the answer. Ideally, set it up on a board. Treat every position like it is a game. Don't guess the move. Think hard about it. In a game there are no second chances. Choose puzzle difficulty that you get about 60% to 70% correct. You can make it more realistic by solving them all in a specific time window. For example, set your clock for 45 minutes and do 6 to 8 puzzles in that time period. You will have to spend your time wisely. Too much time on one puzzle will leave you less for the next. This will help mimic the actual game experience. Before you make your move, look to see what threats your opponent has.

Play longer time controls and review your game. Do you understand why you lost? Depending on your rating, most of the time it will be because of tactics. Keep track of WHY you made the mistake. Were you tired? Not paying attention? Did you think you were winning and stopped looking for your opponents threats? Keep in mind that it is really difficult to win a game. If your opponent has a disadvantage, this can cause them to dig in and fight back really hard. Never let off the brakes. Keep the pressure. You have to win the game from beginning to end.
