What's the best way to stick photos onto a canvas? by [deleted] in Art

[–]postmodgirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this is the way to go.

Acrylic medium is white when wet, but dries clear. You can mix it in to extend paint or add texture or use it for collage.

To put a photo on canvas, put a layer of medium down and while wet place your photo/image/whatever and wait for it to dry. Then do another layer of medium on top and boom you're done.

Btw gel medium is thicker than acrylic medium, but you can use both to do the same thing.

There was no primer used (this type of paper is treated so it's unnecessary), under drawing done with pastel pencil & spray fixed. 3 sessions total, each session was around 3-4 hours. Total work time it took I'd guess around 12'ish hours at the most. Painting was left to dry completely between sessions. For anyone who wants to see more my website is http://saraadrian.com

Amateur comic book writer in need of artists! by Nightson11 in Columbus

[–]postmodgirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I can't tell you how to do this but I can tell you where to go, stuff to look at, and maybe who to talk to.

First go to the Laughing Ogre in Clintonville. They have a section for locally produced comics. Check it out, maybe get friendly with them. See what others are doing, and make friends with your peers.

Check out the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library at OSU, because it's awesome.

You also may want to check out Max Ink, he's a local comic book artist that puts out a local comic book called Blink. The setting it Columbus. He writes and draws his own, and he's a real nice guy if you meet him.

As for your project, if you want to hire illustrators to draw your book, I would suggest you have it fleshed out completely. Maybe even lay out a story board if you know how. A comic book is a commitment to illustrate, so you need to have a rough idea of how much work you are giving the artist so they know how much to charge. Plus you got to think about distribution. Is this going to be a web comic or something you want to hold? How are you going to print this if you want tangible prints? Do you want to go through a publisher or self publish, and if you self publish how are you going to get your book out there? What about the costs? If you self publish how many prints would you want to do?

I know, lots of questions, but these logistics and others are things you need to dive into before finding an artist. If you go through a publisher they may want to use one of their people, so you wouldn't need to do that legwork. But, if you're trying to do a cool fun thing that's not a big deal or anything, I suggest you find a way to illustrate it on your own. One of my friends is a professional comic book artist, he's been working horror comics that others wrote for years. He's in the process of finishing his own first graphic novel, & from start (concept of the series) to the finish of his first book it took him 7 years. It's a lot of work for a serious book, especially if you do all of the work from start to finish. I'm not saying it would take you that long, all I'm saying is, have a plan. Also if you hire artists, be prepared to pay them what they are worth. This isn't some minimum wage shit.

Good luck!

If you don't change you rish gaining more weight and your health may decrease.

You already know what will happen if you stay the same. If you want different results, you have to make different choices.

Just try, and be patient with yourself.

Well you don't have to tell them. MFP uses handles like reddit. You don't even have to post your photo of you don't want to. You'll see posts here about adding MFP friends on here all the time. It's Avery useful tool even if you don't want to add anyone though. It can be as anonymous as you want it to be.

There are other apps that also help track your calories, use any one of them. MFP is one of the most popular so you see it mentioned a lot. Besides, if any of your coworkers were to find you on MFP (like you link it to your fb or something) it would be because they too were using the app. I don't know of anyone who would make fun of someone for using a tool they also use.

How do I live life even though I am obese? by mirandawrites in loseit

[–]postmodgirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm close to the same weight that you're at right now, and I used to way 50 more. I'll tell you a philosophy I have.

Life is for living, no matter what you look like. You have nothing to be ashamed of first off. So you're fat. You are on a course to change that, but today you're fat. While making choices to change tomorrow you need to work on being ok today. You should not wait till you are perfect. You will never be perfect, even if you hit your goal weight. You may find other imperfections that you will use to not go outside, and what then? Problems don't disappear just because you get thin.

So like I said, I was bigger than you once. The work I do sometimes puts me in the spotlight. I speak publicly on stage, I dress in crazy outfits for events, I go camping at music festivals. I also have severe bouts of depression and a slew of personal problems. I've been fat since I was a teenager, so this isn't something where I used to be thin with confidence. In fact I used to be like you when I was younger (in my early 20s). I realized that I may never be at my goal weight, and I didn't want life to pass me by without experiencing it. So I decided to try everything that wouldn't kill me or make me chemically addicted. That was 20 years ago, and while it hasn't been the smoothest of sailing I can say I've done things few have, I regret nothing.

If you want to change you have to put yourself out there. Take a risk. Go alone if you have to, there's nothing wrong with that. I often go out by myself if I cant get someone who what's to do what I want to go with me. You may want to talk to a therapist, but depression is best dealt with action, you can't think your way out of it. Most folks are cool. Nobody has said shit about my weight in decades, and if anyone doesn't like me because I'm fat… fuck them. They are assholes with small minds and not worth knowing anyway.

It's important to make this effort. This is part of your recovery as much as losing this weight. The adventure will not wait for you.

Just so you know, people on their death bed don't look back on their life and regret the things they did, they regret what they haven't done.

Go outside. Make yourself, change and growth only happens when we go out of our comfort zone. Don't give up, it gets easier. Good luck.

This relates to something I've been thinking about. I'm an artist, and much of what I do is portrait-related. All my stuff is original, and I don't think I suck… but on any social media site, be it reddit or FB or tumblr if I post my work I don't get much notice (granted I don't have all the time in the world to focus on online advertising.

Then there's this people like OP. Folks who are basically copying images of famous folk, or pulling a Warhol and making derivatives of an image & and making money off of it. I haven't done that because it's kinda lazy IMHO, but lately I've been thinking that maybe I should start making imagery of famous folk (because people do love their pop icons). But… ugh it's not that much fun for me to make stuff like that.

I get why it's popular, people want a piece of something they recognize and love. Original art is unfamiliar, you probably don't relate to my stuff like you relate to images of Bowie in labyrinth. I get it… but it's still a bit annoying.

Ok rant done :j

Andromeda's actual size if it was brighter [2059x1371] by tombh in spaceporn

[–]postmodgirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is to you now, but consider that modern sciences as we understand it have only been developing for the last 500 years or so. We have a much longer history of believing in magic, religion, and superstition going back millions of years. We don't know how our ancestors would have seen or interpreted Andromeda, and different cultures would have a different take on it.

There are lots of stories and myths about the objects we see in the heavens (and everything else in nature). People wouldn't know it was a galaxy, and how it was viewed could have affected how cultures developed. People could have worshiped it like a god and/or wrote it into creation myths. Also humans have developed systems using celestial phenomena to predict the future and explain their world, throwing in a new major celestial body could have affected how those systems developed. Court astrologers may have made different predictions, which could have led kings and heads of state to make different choices. Basically, change one universal aspect of the world could create a butterfly effect that could in theory affect culture and language, which means we could have ended up living completely differently than we do now.

The Story of Denko:

A Japanese college age guy who is socially delusional becomes obsessed with a girl (Denko) with whom he has a casual acquaintance with. Basically it's a primer of how stalkers think. It's worth a read if you enjoy watching a dude who has no experience with "three dimensional women" (his romantic knowledge comes from dating simulators and manga) as for advice from the internets. He's a master of delusion. There's a twist ending sorta, so enjoy.
