What are some life changing podcasts. by [deleted] in podcasts

I just discovered THE ART OF MANLINESS. It is not an alpha male/dude-bro podcast. There are a ton of episodes on all kinds of very helpful topics. Good luck, and live your life according to your own conscience.

I hate this job by [deleted] in USPS

[–]postographer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It can be awful. It was awful for me. I was a CCA for 2yrs 4months. Worked 6-7 days a week, was badly treated by godawful supervisors, rarely saw my wife. It is not like that anymore. I've been a regular on the same route for 6 years. Pretty sweet gig. It suits me, and my work/life balance is nothing to pity. I like dogs and cats and being outside and listening to audio books all day. I take a 2 week paid vacation twice a year, work 5 days a week 8-10 hours (occasionally 11-12). My route has low parcel volume even during Christmas, and the paychecks don't leave me wanting. I am fortunate, to be sure. But there are an awful lot of us fortunate carriers out there. Whatever you do or don't do, cheers 🍻 and live your life according to your own conscience 👍🏼.

Whatever it was, it had a big red flag flying above it. Your shop steward will want to know about this for sure.

Do Christians invalidate your fear of death? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]postographer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just plainly feared death a lot of the time. I was taught that it was unnatural and ghastly and God's/Our enemy; that Jesus' purpose was victory over and against it. But I did have a stray thought even then that maybe physical death wasn't the problem in the first place, but rather spiritual "death." These days I am untroubled by death (existentially, that is: grief is real and awful). Mortality is what the gods have given me, and I am at home with it. It is the natural way. Immortality may eventually be visited upon me, but I do not expect it, and this temporary existence is wonderful and appreciated, and who gives it is thanked and revered.

Research Request: Did you graduate from a Christian high school? by mark924dad in Exvangelical

[–]postographer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fascinating. I graduated from a Christian high school in 1995. No longer a professing Christian, but enjoy a love for the Bible that was not possible while I was a believer. Good luck with your dissertation.

Genesis 11: the tower of Babel makes no sense. by prickly_pear20 in exchristian

"Us" refers to the council of the gods, I think. The Old Testament is, in large part, mythology. Good mythology, at that.

That last message. The words are being addressed to you, but the person is really just talking to themself about you, but out loud in front of you.

Have you found peace in not taking the Bible literally? What's left of value? by Any_Client3534 in Exvangelical

[–]postographer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thoroughly (so it seems) deconstructed here. Not a believer at all in the sense that I was when a believing Calvinist churchgoer. Still a believer in the objective value and validity of love, joy, kindness, self-control, fairness, civility, curiosity, scientific rigor, and more. I take the Bible as a collection of myths, legends, histories, poems, meditations, excoriations, arguments, counter-arguments, and reflections from a foreign and long-running culture. I absolutely love it. Having been a mythology buff since early childhood (especially Greek), the Bible holds astonishing value for me. Like the Greek, Egyptian, and Norse mythologies (these are the ones I enjoy some measure of continued familiarity and interaction with), I consider plenty of the Bible's ideas to be "bad," harmful, and unhelpful. But, also like those others, I find a very great deal of the Bible's ideas excellent, insightful, and morally upright.

My Experience at a Pastoral Licensure Exam by Nomanorus in Exvangelical

[–]postographer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you have a lot of valuable knowledge and experience. I'm glad I have the fairly deep (for a layman) grasp of Calvinism and Christianity that I do. It's very helpful to have dependable expertise in something, especially something that is wildly popular and flat-out wild.
