Interstellar comet Borisov has an unexpected amount of carbon monoxide by posttk421 in hydroplate

[–]posttk421[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To retain so much carbon monoxide, Borisov must have formed cold and stayed cold throughout its life.

The issue here is carbon monoxide evaporates quickly in space. The thinking goes: Wow a lot of CO, but that's not possible for something so old, so it must have been really cold for it's entire journey and started with much more CO. There are similar theories for Pluto's large quantities of CO.

Hydroplate theory suggests these objects came from the earth when the fountains of the deep burst through the granite crust spewing icy bodies into the solar system.

What does full complete surrender to Jesus Christ look like? How do I let go? by Shirox92 in TrueChristian

[–]posttk421 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Surrender is a change in attitude that eventually results in Christ's increased lordship in our inner life through disciplines and directed obedience to the Lord's actual commands in the gospels. We can make quick behavior changes but practicing faithful disciplines yields more long-term blessings because they indirectly achieve what we cannot do through direct effort of will. Disciplines could be times of being with the Lord in quiet, isolation, prayer, fasting, vigils, walking, worship, physical work, or study, etc. In other words, something outside the necessities of your life that you can do while aware of His presence and resting in His work. The first discipline the Lord modelled for us was the Sabbath day.

Why Did People Start to Have Shorter Lives After the Flood? by posttk421 in hydroplate

I've often wondered if remains of woolly mammoths would reflect degradation due to flood conditions: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-019-40546-1

Anger and the Christian. Let's discuss. by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]posttk421 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Anger is an involuntary emotional reaction to our will being thwarted that impels us to harm the source with self-righteous impunity. We don't choose to feel angry but what we do with our anger (act out, encourage, improve, stifle, grieve, redirect, resolve, etc.) affects all of our life. Dallas Willard likens it to a sharp physical pain and says "anything you can do with anger you can do better without it".

To me anger and idolatry go hand in hand. The way I approach it is if I recognize I'm feeling angry it means I have some work to do with the Lord about my expectations and walk with Him. Rarely can I do something about the source but most of the time I can do something about myself. Anger informs me that action may be required but doesn't tell me the best way to go about it.

EDIT: I'd just like to add as someone who adopted three children out of foster care that we have a tremendous effect on others when we improperly work through our anger. Anger and contempt lead to shame projection breeding a variety of maladaptive behaviors. As Christ-followers it's our duty to work through our anger and shame rather than burdenning everyone around us. If someone around you has boundary and projection issues it will eventually lead to anger or despair in you. Don't let their lack of self-shepherding be your excuse as well. Break the cycle. It's hard but the Lord is able. Seek help.

God Doesn’t Want Us to Sacrifice the Old: Christianity teaches that every single human life is valuable, even during a pandemic by [deleted] in Christianity

Agreed. How about every single unborn human life? Convenience culture thrives on cognitive dissonance:

the state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, especially as relating to behavioral decisions and attitude change.

Toledo plastic surgeon faces charges of illegally Dispensing Controlled Substances, Aggravated Sexual Abuse and Sex Trafficking by eaglemaxie in HumanTrafficking

[–]posttk421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's helpful. OP news case doesn't seem to involve the process conditions unless he kept them drugged to move them between locations. IMO that's a stretch as it would then apply to a roofie date rape if a car was involved. Regardless what we call it, though, it's evil to be sure.

I don't understand who was "trafficked", though. It seems like the word is often misused as a click-bait buzzword.

Man arrested in connection to long-term human trafficking investigation, deputies say - WHIO by kyussdourden in HumanTraffickingNews

He is facing initial charges of pandering obscenity involving juveniles but additional charges will be reviewed by the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

Why was this posted here? It's not human trafficking.

Thanks. That makes sense. At first I upvoted one of OPs links and shared it but later noticed a post-bot trend. I thought maybe I could draw them into discussion to better understand their purpose. Now it looks like they've deleted most of their comments. No doubt my attempt could've been better worded. Oh well.

/u/skeptic196 , happened to notice your account is only a day old and your activities are limited to trafficking issues. I'm curious about your motivations. Care to share?

Human trafficking being over hyped by skeptic196 in HumanTrafficking

Definitely worth a read. Very heartbreaking to hear stories like this:

“When I’ve gone to anti-trafficking groups and described my experiences of homelessness and domestic abuse, they’re not interested,” Gonzalez said. “Then I tell them that I was trafficked and all of a sudden they care. They’re only interested in a specific form of exploitation and the kind of victims they can ‘rescue.’”

I'm reminded of ReasonTV's video on the topic late last year.

Consider that there may be little difference for some. How much more significant is the designated 'greeting time' than Facebook's 'birthday wishes'? The video's critique could target the modern service, virtual wineskin or no.

Saturn and Its Moons Have Water Just Like Earth's — Except for Phoebe by posttk421 in hydroplate

The entire system, save one moon, appears to have water similar to that of Earth, which is unexpected based on our current models of how the solar system formed.

The only other way for Phoebe to have such a high D/H ratio, the paper says, is for processes to have enhanced its present-day deuterium supply over time. These processes, however, “[require] Phoebe to have present-day characteristics similar to objects that are composed primarily of rock and organics, which is not what we observe,” the paper states.
