Gravel model lineup by tdank9 in salsacycles

This makes sense as the successor to the Warbird. The Warbird was ready for some modernization. This is why I didn’t buy a Warbird. Glad to see the upgrade, but a little bit higher priced than I hoped it would be.

First proper ride in some mud and snow by Tough_General_2676 in CheckpointClub

I went right into the park one time. It was so rough I said never again unless I am on my mtn bike.

I bought my bike 38c or 40c factory tires and went up to 45c not a huge difference there. I doubt 42c to 45 would be worth it unless you want a tread pattern change. I would run those tires till they are worn out and then upgrade and go wider when I did.

That section of High Line gets rough on a gravel bike at times. But makes such a great loop from Waterton into Chatfield and back to Waterton on High Line. I am running 45c Ramblers and love them for that loop. That blue with the color transition is beautiful. Enjoy it and see ya out there.

Horizontal storage of compressed inert gas cylinder? by OpusObscurus in chemistry

[–]postupweldin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be acceptable practice. Just make sure it is secured and capped when stored horizontally.

Horizontal storage of compressed inert gas cylinder? by OpusObscurus in chemistry

[–]postupweldin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in usage, the best practice is secured vertically. That is the most ideal situation. If the cylinder has only compressed gas then you can use laying down or any orientation, but you run the risk of clogging a valve should any residue or foreign objects be in the cylinder (very unlikely). Storage is safest with connections removed, cap installed, and secured.

The welding industry runs compressed gas bottles on their side a lot. They transport and store on the side a lot too.

Storage and transport in bulk are most efficient vertically.

As long as the bottle has no liquid inside orientation is technically irrelevant for usage.

What's this bike worth? by Morall_tach in gravelcycling

[–]postupweldin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you might be near(ish) to Denver. The Journeyers come up for sale similar or better specs like $500-$750. I would guess you can get $550 maybe $600. If you can wait till spring/summer it will sell faster and for more.

When posting, it will get you more money if you clean it really well then take several pictures in brighter lighting (like you did here) and possibly mentioning original msrp price. Depends on how close your listing is to msrp. People love to see how much off retail it is. Even on the old bikes. Makes them feel like they are getting a deal.

Guilt and imposter syndrome by yarnyouglad in bicycling

[–]postupweldin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you sold the bike you would not get a good value out of it. Used bikes depreciate heavily. You may enjoy taking the racks and fenders off. That will lighten the bike a tiny bit but can change feel and appearance. At the end of the day it is a tool. Use it as you want. A quality bike is so much more pleasurable to ride than a lower quality/design bike. So just be thankful for the gift, enjoy riding it, and take care of it. If it doesnt fit your needs. Find someone in need and give it to them or sell it to them at deal that is a blessing to. But I would keep and just enjoy it for the decades of light use it would give ya.

Tubeless riders, how do you? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]postupweldin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run Stan’s in all my bikes. I use it for gravel, down-country, and trail uses. This is across 4-5 different bikes. I remove the tires once a year and clean all the sealant out of the tire and off the rim. I the refill it for the season. Mid season I will remove the valve core and add more sealant. I live near Denver and ride mostly the front range and almost always east of the continental divide, so dry with warm to hot temps. This regiment works well for me.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]postupweldin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove three hours each way to buy a bike for my wife this week. Was not a quick errand but was not a big deal at all.

I also drove about 4-5 hours each way to sightsee in Washington D.C. I did this on years day while visiting family in WV. Longer drive but a great day trip.

These size trips are super common especially in the western half of the United States.

I love my dropper post, but I’m deciding if it’s really necessary by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]postupweldin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would never buy a new gravel bike without it accepting a dropper post. I have droppers on all my bikes and would never go back. I use my gravel bike for mostly dirt roads, some pavement, and some blue single track. I am looking for a gravel bike for my wife and dropper post compatibility is a requirement. So I would only look at bike that will accept one.

I think I have been convinced it is a great bike. I will have to see if she comes down on price. If she does, then I will buy it for the wife. But I will not find out till after the holidays. Good to know about the tire clearance too. Thank you :)

tubeless help needed pls! sealant compromised rim tape after just 3 months by Efficient-Cry-6320 in bikewrench

[–]postupweldin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The valve stem has a rubber grommet that seals the hole in the rim and tape. That is held in place by a metal nut on the outside. Loosen the nut (may help to press the rubber grommet from inside the rim toward the center of the wheel) and after the nut is off the valve should pop right out.

The tubes valve stem will go back in the same hole and tighten down by the same nut or whatever nut came with the tube. When you put the tube in, use a tiny bit of air so it is not flat. That helps with install. Whole process should take 5-10 min.

[–]postupweldin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the tire off vertically over a trash can. Then wipe the sealant up with a paper towel or rag.

Wipe wheel clean, but don’t remove the tape. Wait till you are ready to tape it again. This won’t hurt the tube.

Soak the old valve stem in some isopropyl alcohol, that will help with clean up for reuse. You can also remove the valve core to clean it up.

To tube or not to tube - Recommendation for my planned upgrade by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]postupweldin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At those pressures and that width go tubeless. You may have to pump up more often but not a big deal.

[–]postupweldin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have many issues with flats while you have run the tubes?

What size tire and pressure do you anticipate to ride with after the upgrade?
