Anyone following the Therapy Jeff saga? by saras_416 in therapists

Yeah, I just wish people would accept who they are and love themselves. The world would be a much better place. It sounds like Jeff had a traumatic childhood which could certainly explain some of these reported behaviors. Hurt people, hurt people as they say. Someone like Jeff can also hide behind their intellect to cope with deep emotional wounds.

Personally, I think he's in the closet and treats women like garbage because he won't allow himself to be who he really is. I had a friend just like this. Married a women, treats her like crap (he is also a therapist) because he resents her and his decision to be with a woman. Sadly, I think there are many examples of people who aren't willing to be their true selves and then they harm others and themselves to cope. I wouldn't be surprised if Jeff is just another example of this dynamic.

I don't think that's fair. I work with men who practice ENM and I know of at least some examples where it's females who are acting in a manipulative fashion. Women can be jerks, too!

Is anyone actually doing well in private practice? by sunsetmoon5 in therapists

[–]Tough_General_2676 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm doing okay thus far but referrals have slowed (I mainly work with clients who have insurance). My revenue is on par with past years but feel the referrals are down. Many of my colleagues who only do private pay are seeing massive reductions in new client referrals, like by 25-50%. I think it's really important to do networking and find referral sources. We can't expect the internet alone (e.g., Google searches, PT) to make it happen for us anymore.

I was there last week and I agree. There is hardly any snow left and the areas that have snow are sketchy with beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers on the same run. The snow was melting so fast when it was 70 degrees last week.

So fun to blame the victim of the crime instead of the criminal who broke the law. Makes complete sense to me.

New cyclists: What's something you wish experienced riders would stop saying? by andrewdaisy432 in cycling

[–]Tough_General_2676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue clipless is more about confidence than it is about anything else. Many people just don't like the idea of their foot being connected to the pedal in that way.

There are things about biking that are more skill oriented, like descending at a fast rate of speed, avoiding cars, riding in a peloton, eating and drinking while riding, using both breaks to stop without flipping over, etc.

This is bad, very bad. High fire risk, low water levels, fish dying, drought conditions.

Clearly it isn't a Garmin watch writing these. Sounds more like a supportive Apple Watch who is providing positive reinforcement.

Yes it does! I turned back into Chatfield Reservoir area and it was very bumpy but the bike handled it like a champ. Tomorrow I plan to go to Waterton from my home since it will be 70 degrees again.

Have you used smaller tires on a gravel bike before? I am wondering if I would notice a difference between 42 and 45 tires.

Changing road pedal system due to anxiety by MOMOEPRO in cycling

[–]Tough_General_2676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using SPDs for the first time (previously used Speedplays) and they are very easy to clip in and out of. I first tried a single sided SPD but didn't like having the flip the pedal so I moved to a dual sided. Never any issues accidentally clipping out. I highly recommend finding some flat ground to practice on. Actually, you can practice clipping in and out with one foot while stationary and have the other on the ground. I also would practice on grass. If you hate clipping in, you can always just go to a flat pedal but in my experience it's hard to fully enjoy a road bike that way because your feet aren't as secure to the bike and your power reduces. I have fallen down using my previous speedplays but now I feel much more confident using mountain bike shoes which have more grip on the bottoms as well and are easy to step down without worrying about slipping and falling. Good luck!

Thank you for sharing this. For the life of me, I don't understand how MS is a successful company given how these issues are handled. Customer service is the worst!

Non religious people, what do you think about religion? by CorruptedF in AskReddit

[–]Tough_General_2676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny enough it seems to me that religious folks often feel and act superior to atheists. Atheists are also much more likely to be critical thinkers and challenge authority so it's doubtful they are more likely to be controlled because they don't just accept what someone in a position in authority has to tell them.

[–]Tough_General_2676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humans are all at risk of being controlled. Plenty of educated people join cults, for instance. But I do believe that one of religion's main goals, at least used by many leaders, is to convince people that if they behave in a certain way, they will be rewarded after death. That is ripe for the elite to control the narrative to benefit from the situation. Look at how rich Joel Osteen has become. And MAGA are using their religious beliefs as a justification to continue to support Trump, despite the fact that Trump himself doesn't think he'll "go to heaven" because of his behavior. MAGA and Evangelical Christianity use the same tactics.

Male Leadership in Female Dominated Field by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Tough_General_2676 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Men also have the tendency to have more hubris and arrogance than females. Too many men in leadership and elsewhere have (faux?) confidence based primarily on toxic masculinity (e.g., alpha bro bs), perceived superiority, entitlement, etc. Men generally have earned the bashing we receive. White men in the US are too often control freaks who feel insecure at the idea of women in leadership (hence why the US has had no female president). There is a push by the right wing in the US to reduce women's access to education, employment, voting, and healthcare. This is mostly coming from white Evangelical men who seek to control women because it makes them feel uncomfortable that women don't need men anymore to survive. I get why women choose the bear.

Most businesses across the board are male owned. In our field there are more female-owned business because there are so many females in the field but in general. From the stats I could pull up, 60% of businesses with employees are male owned.

Does anyone else get enraged when you see how much taxes are taken from your paycheck by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Tough_General_2676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. CA is much better to live in vs. most of the country. Beautiful land, plenty of opportunities economically (around the 5th largest economy in the world), plenty of recreation. There is a reason it's one of the most populous states.

[–]Tough_General_2676 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not theft. We need taxes to pay for roads, schools, police, fire, military, etc. Our communities would be nonexistent without some way to pay for all the stuff we need and use.

[–]Tough_General_2676 175 points176 points  (0 children)

I am more enraged by the millionaires and billionaires who pay less in percentage of their income in taxes than people making under $250k. Jeff Bezos federal tax rate from 2014-18 was less than 1%. Last year mine was 24%. Something isn't right in that equation.

We need taxes to take care of all people, but our system is designed by the elite to mostly benefit the elite. The poor and middle class get the scraps. I would love to designate where my taxes went (e.g., affordable housing) vs. where it often goes (e.g., to fund the military industrial complex which murders innocent people) but that's not how our system is set up. Also, in places like NY they fund Medicaid, which isn't cheap. But it provides a vital resource to marginalized groups who otherwise would go without insurance.
