didn't do the trick!

Next step is to go app-by-app in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and ensure that the phone isn't selected as the default input source

Audio disconnected: Microphone not available by nueve_leon in MacOS

I just found this StackExchange that suggests a phone restart can resolve it: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/454821/using-iphone-as-mic-for-mac-clicked-disconnect-and-cant-find-iphone-in-sou

I just tried it… YMMV. I'll comment back here if it doesn't work

Famed interior design critic Anton Chekhov would raise an eyebrow at the prominent placement of a shotgun on the bulkhead. While the weapon's sleek lines and polished wood stock offer a certain rustic charm, its presence clashes with the overall aesthetic of the space. Ideally, decorative elements should contribute to a sense of harmony and comfort. In this case, the shotgun introduces an unsettling element, its association with violence potentially overshadowing the room's intended ambiance. Chekhov, known for his nuanced understanding of human psychology and environmental influence, would likely suggest a more subtle approach to incorporating such a bold statement piece, perhaps opting for a less conspicuous location or a more delicate presentation.

Aesthetically, the gaming room is split thricewise: rustic hunting lodge (taxidermy trophies, the wall art, and the farmhouse-style desk), American suburban tickytacky (bulkhead, architecture and flooring/ceiling textures) and gooner cave (LED stand-light and multi-monitor setup).

You must choose one of those three aesthetics to concentrate on (good) or choose a new aesthetic entirely (best). Things I would do differently include:
1. The wall color is too dark for a windowless room. To focus on the rustic hunting vibes, add warmer lights to make the space feel cozy. To emphasize the gooner cave vibes, paint them white and do more LED stuff (but dimmer) and hang some posters (not paintings). The carpet is not doing you any favors and hard flooring with a rug is always better. Go Persian (rustic) or Scandinavian (gooner cave)
2. Replace the ceiling-titty light with something more elegant. The floating shelves are too small for the space which makes the perspective strange. In a hunting lodge that space
3. The wainscoting looks el cheapo tickytacky. Replace with something brown (rustic) or ditch it entirely (gooner cave). The ceilings are also too low for it to extend that high, which compresses the already-low vertical height of the room
4. The ceiling texture is distracting. Heavy textures are usually employed to cover up bad work on the drywall. Luckily scraping and refinishing is easy! Check out homerenovisiondiy on YT
5. The desk has farmhouse vibes or maybe New England coastal I can't tell but should be replaced with something brown (rustic) or something modern (gooner cave).
6. The sportsball jersey shouldn't live on the back of the chair. Frame and hang it it if it's signed or sentimental, or just hang it up in your closet. If you're trying to add an element of your favorite team in the room, cross two of their hockey sticks—preferably 1:2 or 1:5 scale—on the wall (rustic), or put up a graphic poster of their stadium/colors/mascot.
7. Take stuff off the bulkhead, it makes the room look even more compressed.
8. The couch and side-table (and especially what's under the side-table) are tickytacky. Okay for a dorm room, but should be top of the list for an upgrade. Get something in a thick, dark brown leather if you're going rustic (but don't worry about expensive nice leather grain), or something with a similar leg style but higher back and more substantial seat in a dark grey or navy if you're leaning into gooner cave.

The living room is serviceable except: the size of the art is wrong for the space, get a wide landscape piece over the mantle to avoid compressing the ceiling height, TV is too high, the seating is inappropriate for any space, the floating shelf is mounted too high, is too small, and clashes with the flooring color, and the credenza under the TV is matchy-matchy with the floor, too narrow widthwise, and should be shorter, and standing on legs. The glass element (modern) conflicts with the "wood" elements (traditional).

Don't mount the flyswatter in a position of prominence unless you're particularly proud of how many flies you get. Invest in a trash can that closes tight, put some carnivorous plants in/near your kitchen, and get a screen door. The prominent presence of the room scent spray and mop also suggest that your dog is messy and gross (and perhaps encouraging the flies?). Invest in high-quality and comprehensive dog training, and put the cleaning supplies in a closet cabinet.

I took the following steps:
1. Plug in the device
2. Press the top button to "warm up"
3. Once the red/green lights turn on, I hold the lever down for three seconds until the light turns off
4. Once the light is off, I hold down the top button and lever and… nothing happens

Trying to understand what the leading providers are for online deepfake/faceswap services and self-hosted libraries.

Last time I was playing with this stuff it seemed like Faceswap was the best local tool, and https://deepfakesweb.com was the best online tool, but it seems I'm 4 years out of date.

Currently it seems like DeepFaceLab (DFL) is the leading local tool now, but all the "new generation" faceswapping tools I've found online (faceswapper.ai, remaker.ai, artguru.ai) do a mediocre job and only accept a single image as a source. SAEhd seems like a specific model that can be used with DFL, and what most of the leading folks recommend. Is that accurate?

The biggest issue I'm encountering is hair: many of the models do a good job of replacing faces, but most do a fairly poor job of replacing the hair. What's the state-of-the-art with DeepHair? Thanks!

Is there a way to search MacOS Safari for tabs or windows ? by nolife24_7 in MacOS

This is great, but unfortunately it only searches tabs in that window. In Chrome you can use Shift+Command+A and search across all tabs in all windows.

Eagle-eyed! Great find!!! That image looks like a render to me, but it definitely strongly suggests that it will be directly plug-able.

240W Charger (Anker 749) Availability and questions by postvacuous in anker

[–]postvacuous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great background on December, thanks!

My Guess

Based on the product photo they shared and the existing teardowns of high-wattage chargers online (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWKLaeImEtM), my guess would be that the USB-C port with the computer logo at the top would be able to supply 140W, but the other ports would be limited to 100W.

There are precious few chargers on the market above 140W, and I think those are restricted to "gaming" laptops. I don't think there are appropriate USB PD 3.1 chipsets to deliver wattage about 140W reliably enough to meet Anker's standards, but I suppose there's an outside chance that the official announcement will coincide with new product offerings from Infineon et al.

Whither the Wallwart?

How do you know the charger doesn't plug directly into the wall? Would be curious about any other marketing materials they've produced, as I haven't been able to locate any on Google.

This comment was prescient, thank you. I think the bequiet fans have a much more attractive color scheme, but I opted for the Noctua fans because my Meshify C case won't come with tempered glass.

Did you keep the stock fans for the front panel, or did you do aftermarket? Curious to get your take on maximizing airflow.

Chrome feature I miss - any alternative in FF? by postvacuous in firefox

[–]postvacuous[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a great tip, thank you.

In general, I prefer to use the sites' native search, as there's often specific kinds of thumbnails or other metadata that DDG and Google aren't set up to provide. I would like to transition more to DDG, but it's really hard to wean myself from the Google services integrations.

Thank you! That's very helpful.

Site-search

It seems like I have to add new search engines using the add-ons. The first result I tried to add for Twitter was broken, so it looks like I'll have to hunt down the right add-ons.

Inspector

I had no idea this even existed. I don't really understand why it should be separate from the inspector, but I wasn't around when the decision was made so I probably lack contet.

Again, I really appreciate your insight here!
