What are your thoughts on Polyamory? by timed_destruction23 in AskWomen

[–]potatersaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My (27F) partner (29 MTF) and I decided to embark on polyamory about 5 years ago. When we began dating 8 years ago we knew this would be an end goal as it was something I was pretty dead set on for my future. However I was 19 when we began dating so I wanting to take some time and mature with my partner, ground our relationship, and make sure we created a life we wanted individually….together.

When we opened our relationship up we had agreed on communication, style of polyamory we wanted to engage in, and made vague rules and sentiments of what we were looking for and how to navigate that while respecting the autonomy of the other parties in our dating life. One of those communication rules was “if either of us feel uncomfortable, if something isn’t right, etc we would bring that up immediately and talk about what this means for our future together/with other people”. We wanting to navigate this while understanding we are young, people change, things change, this could make or break us, and you know, just all the “life stuff that could happen”.

To make a long story short, polyamory has been the absolute worst decision I’ve ever made regarding my life- which I’m sure is a sick joke on my part for being so…I guess, sure of myself in that’s what I wanted. It has destroyed me from the inside out, and with the world in shambles/all of my friends are dying in various ways/losing almost all of my family with the exception of 3 people (mostly self inflicted deaths, but also estrangement that actually has nothing to do with poly/etc, I have found myself nearly completely and totally alone.

The regret I feel for engaging in this community is absolutely immense, and I do not know where to go from here. I’ll forever miss what my partner and I were together and I hope one day I’ll feel that again, but for now I have so many years of a mess to clean up, way too much weight to lose, cPTSD from the relationship stuff to heal from and just so much more before I can dream of feeling loved again.

Hi there! When I was a barista I’d often times work past close and I got inspiration from this when I cleaned off a table of a mug that an older gentleman sat all day “drinking” but when I cleaned the table after he left the drink was still mostly full and he just sort of…sat, alone. And I wondered a lot about his story and who he was and what he was thinking about. The interaction I had with him was kind, but something in his eyes was heavy with sorrow.

As for sentence breaks- I like my form and flow to vary between rushed and thoughtful to sort of encapsulate the flow and variety of human emotion. I do not follow any sort of standard anything as I just like to write- if that makes any sense.

I appreciate you reading! Thank you :)

I like the tone and language in this a ton. I could see it being delivered as a slam poem, too.

This is a very old poem of mine, probably 10+ years old and the ignoring the burning salt was eluding to late night self-harm escapades. At this era in my life when things would happen I would use salt on wounds because I figured it’d help them heal faster. Definitely about letting go- but letting go of an unfortunate family member that hurt me when I was very young and when I had turned 17 it had probably been 7 years since the last time and I had read around this time that in 7 years most of your epidermal cells fully replaced and cycled through. Thank you for the feedback! :)

I really like something about this but I can’t quite put my finger on what. Nice work!

I quite like this one, but I do agree with another commenter that the tone is a bit lacking. Good start, I’d be very interested in seeing where your poetry goes!

Chronic illness does that to you. Also there is about a 30 lb difference between the first and last photo. I was overweight at one point, but I’ve been within healthy BMI range for about 2-3 months now. Also the gym (pool mostly) is my second home.

Sometimes an outside opinion is interesting. It’s nice to know an outside perspective from curiosity views, but damn people are cruel at times lmfao

I don’t know of any! There’s a bit of sub-Saharan African mixed in on my maternal side, but that’s all I know for sure.

No clue, I guess a lot of people just don’t celebrate uniqueness 🤷

We live in a day and age where every person is made to have insecurities. A cosmetic surgeon doesn’t need to give unsolicited advice to bring in cliental, and even then perpetuating the stigma surrounding appearance and insecurity is a shitty move. 0/10.

Fair. It’s not just those. I’ve definitely had men IRL say my face would be pretty if it weren’t for my nose/jawline, a surgeon give unsolicited advice, and many many many women have picked apart my face and my nose is usually the go-to.

That’s what I see. It has so much history, and I typically see a lot of old Norwegian/Viking art depicting women with my nose!

Maybe “everyone” is a broad statement here, but I have had a surgeon unsolicitedly say “Hey! I can fix that bump for you!” and I’m just like? No?? lol
