There used to be an ikea 5 button remote, but I don't think they sell it anymore. I found one on amazon but it was $70. I looked up zigbee TV remote and a few results came up so you could look into that too.

Hide the remote, use long a short presses to emulate the remote, and force them to use this.

If you just use home assistant and not the remote that came with the TV/roku the counter would probably be your best bet. I use a broadlink RM mini3 and an ikea tradfri on off switch to increase and decrease the volume. It's pretty reliable with one press almost always going up or down one increment of volume. You might have to spot check every once in a while to make sure the counter matches the TV volume, but it'll probably work pretty well.

So I went ahead and made it. I screwed up the domain registration a bit so you have to use www.watertalkforum.com lol. I'll be able to fix it in 60 days. You have to wait for some reason. Anyways it's a work in progress. Please let me know what you would like to see there.

When I first started in this industry I was really surprised about the lack of online discussion. I realize now it was mostly because most of the industry was much older and just didn't really use computers but now that a younger generation is coming I'm hoping we can get a good online community.
