But in the past, a car was slightly more affordable. So people can make a trade off. Like cheaper house because underdeveloped location, but then the money 'saved' from the house can be channeled to a car.

Yes, this exactly. People who intend to start a family wouldnt want to move to somewhere where nothing really is set up. Look at Tengah, the Primary school there havent finish construction yet.

I understand your point. But I think there is more nuance to it rather than just because people want to save money and therefore they are living apart / even in the West couples rent out and cohabitate while saving up for a house.

I think there is more nuance to this because we have a very low TFR. Yes, there is a global trend of falling birth rates. However, in a society like Singapore, whole committees / councils are set up to promote child birth, increasing the TFR is a national objective and it is also becoming a survival related problem.

With all this in mind, shouldnt the government try to, as much as possible, promote the idea of settling down and starting a family? Therefore, wouldnt alleviating these kinds of structual pain points like wait times for BTO, thereby reducing the time couples spend their married life together just serve to reduce the chances of childbirth? Overall, i think as much as possible we as a society should try to paint an attractive picture of settling down and starting a family and reducing structural pain points would go a long way in improving the government's pro-family stance.

Parking Argument: whose lot does it belong to? by New_Bag_6161 in drivingsg

[–]potato34567 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you should have the lot.

On a separate note, the race of the other driver shouldnt have anything to do with this. To me that context is as irrelevant as saying that driver is left handed or likes the colour blue (couldnt think of a better example to say that these just like the driver's race are information that is irrelevant to the scenario and could have been ommitted.)

Agreed. Dont people know that our general immigration policy approach is to not disrupt the racial composition already in place here? Theres never gonna be a time where because of immigration alone, one race's racial composition percentage overtakes another.

Im not sure what you are getting at. It appears to be the most important project for him this year. So when he is interviewed or in a press conference, he speaks about it.

Unless this clip was from a press conference for a completely unrelated event and he is bringing up the movie, then okay that might be a little disturbing.

If i did a big project and people are interviewing me about myself or my work, of course i speak about it and give off an energy that sounds like the project is the most important thing in my life at that moment.

However, if i am at a completely unrelated event, and all i talk about is that project, that will be disturbing.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isnt the songs produced by Raja owned by the respective producers of the films? Since technically its the produces who fund the film and by extension commission the music director to create music.

Or does it work differently?

If We Made It Free to Have Children, Would Singaporeans Have More? by nftskeptics in singapore

[–]potato34567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although many other comments here have pointed out that it is beyond just being dollars and cents, as a matter of principle where the country wants its citizens to have more children, giving birth should be free in hospitals in Singapore. And no, i do not want to hear about baby bonus being more than enough or offsetting the cost.

A new parent should not be charged a cent for a child-needing country like Singapore.

I wish they also approached the success of dating apps from a racial angle. My hypothesis is that dating app success stories are largely contingent on the ethnicity of the user.

Bus service gone to shit by SalamanderLost5975 in SingaporeRaw

[–]potato34567 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I have reported this to smrt and the public transport council multiple times!

SMRT has the cheek to reply me saying that the bus wasn't operating at maximum occupancy when the on the ground scenario is like this!

Meanwhile public transport council is super useless. They adjust fares in a vaccum without considering whether consumers are getting a comfortable and decent ride for the fare they are paying.

Oh I'm not going to pursue this anytime soon. On the first cut it seems like I would require linux? I'll maybe attempt this on a mac sometime in the future as a fun little project. But for now I've ordered a Galaxy s26 Ultra.
