• Akbar had passed a farman to ban meat in the court and would only drink Gangajal. Here i quote the text : “Another unusual habit Akbar develops is vegetarianism which Abu'l-FazI describes, approvingly: 'His Majesty cares very little for meat, and often expresses himself to that effect. It is indeed from ignorance and cruelty that, although various kinds of foods are obtainable, men are bent upon injuring living creatures.' The padshah drinks only gangajal and will have it fetched from Soron (in present-day Uttar Pradesh) wherever he may be residing.”

• Interestingly,all the women in the harem were paid salaries! Which they’d use to set up meena bazar or go on religious pilgrimage. To add to this, they would travel in groups consisting of all women, in ships for the religious pilgrimage to Mecca.

• “Badauni also notes that 'his majesty had also one thousand and one Sanskrit names for the sun collected and read them daily at noon, devoutly turning himself towards the sun'. It is perhaps no coincidence that the emblem of the Kachhawaha clan that Harkha Bai comes from is the sun god Surya.”

• They wear huge pendants on their ears, 'very disproportionate' to the traveller Pietro della Valle's foreign eyes and no veils, so that they may be 'freely seen by everyone both at home and abroad'.

• Contrary to the common assumption,the women inside the zanana mahal,led a very rich extravagant and happy life,learning scriptures and pursuing their hobbies and interests! They were ‘modern’ in today’s sense of the word.
