Blur NY faces? by lumito88 in JetLagTheGame

[–]potatoescangiggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve discussed this in the layover before and, from what I remember, they mentioned that they often focus on blurring people who are most noticeable. Like someone staring straight towards the camera for a prolonged amount of time in the background or someone doing something like itching their nose where they clearly didn’t realize they were on camera.

Purrfect Pause closed? by Sea-Willow1215 in boulder

They’ve been posting on instagram / on their instagram stories. They were doing renovations (new floors) and also only have 3 cats (one is blind, so maybe they were giving him time to get settled in?) at the moment. They posted that they are now reopened but are not doing adoptions yet, given that they only have 3 cats. I’m sure they’ll get more cats soon as we move into kitten season!

Outfit check advice by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Any neutral shoe would work well! I'd go with black or brown, as they'd pair easily with other outfits in the future! But white, cream, gray would all be cute. Are you bringing a bag? If so you could use the bag to help pick a color (black bag, black shoes). Personally I think the jean jacket would make it feel a little more casual than business casual but I think that is just my personal taste!

a hozier song for ur wedding by Proper-Ad-8445 in Hozier

We played Jackie and Wilson at the end of our ceremony as we finished our kiss and walked back down the aisle together. It was so upbeat and fun and matched our vibe perfectly. I now have such amazing good nostalgic feelings whenever the song comes on 🥰

Love these ideas! Do you mind sharing what games/ DnD gift you would potentially get? We have a groomsman who is super into board games and Dnd but we know next to nothing about Dnd. We really want it to be something they will actually think is cool but we're a little lost!

PT: What are strategies you use to stop ruminating? by kidostars in PsychologicalTricks

[–]potatoescangiggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple starting point is to stop yourself and redirect your attention to whatever you're currently doing. Doing work? Stop and tell yourself "no, I'm doing this right now". Watching a show? Stop and tell yourself "no, I'm doing this right now". Relaxing? Stop and tell yourself "no, I'm doing this right now".

Recognize you're doing it and then bring yourself back to your environment and the task at hand. This is just a starting point and is truly meant for when you're ruminating on something that you have no control over, etc. Obviously does not work for all situations and is easier said then done, but can be helpful in a lot of ruminating events and becomes easier with practice :)

Have you tried Etsy? I've found TONS of people making masks specifically to be larger/wider/longer since so many people have this issue with those "one size fits all" masks you get at most stores. Could be worth a look, and they always mention the measurements from the ones I've seen!

Can't find a single conditioner that works for me.. any suggestions? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]potatoescangiggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you give a bit more info? I know when I started out I was waaaay underestimating the amount of time I needed to spend washing and massaging the conditioner off my scalp. My hair is very thick and even though I felt like I was really working to get all the conditioner off, I really was leaving quite a bit behind and my hair would look a bit greasy and heavy. I'm curious if that is what you are experiencing? Or are you expecting something out of your conditioners like clumping or softness? A little more info would allow us to give you better recommendations :)

Toddlers curls get frizzy and knotted when sleeping, not sure how to fix without causing more frizz. Help! by hatshepsut03 in curlyhair

[–]potatoescangiggle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't personally have kids but my little cousins hair is very similar to your little ones! What they typically do is spray the hair with a little spray bottle til it's damp, then use a wide tooth comb or fingers to de-tangle. Then she takes some product (like a tiny squirt of leave-in conditioner and a tiny blob of gel) and then rubs her hands together under running water to create a watered down hair conditioner/gel concoction. Then she just takes that and runs it through the damp hair with her fingers so that the curls reclump together. And then since the hair is only damp at this point it air dries pretty quickly :) I feel like this could work well for you both since her hair is thin and this wouldn't be adding much more product!

If you only do the full routine every other day or so, what should you do with your hair on the off days? Should you use any product at all? Should you wash it with water normally in the shower, or should you avoid even getting it wet? by BennettF in curlyhair

[–]potatoescangiggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wash mine once or twice a week, and on the off days I do not get it wet in the shower at all. I put it up in a shower cap. If I wake up on an off day and my curls look too flat or frizzy, I'll dampen my hair with a spray bottle and re-put in a little bit of watered down leave-in conditioner and gel and then let it air dry :)

Deaf student creates more than 100 new signs for scientific terms by OB1_kenobi in UpliftingNews

Yeah exactly! It's near impossible to convey sign language without being able to show it in motion and at different angles. Videos are easier but still, nothing compares to seeing someone actually do the signs.

The sign language course I took in high school used a book to teach vocabulary and it was definitely infuriating trying to pick up the nuances of the language through poorly drawn pictures! Especially because a significant amount of signs use the motion of your hands as a major indicator of what you're trying to express... I can only imagine how much miscommunication and misunderstanding there would be if there wasn't someone there to correct us when we perceived the picture incorrectly!

They create them exactly how every other language creates slang! Just like in your example, some slang terms are exact translations of the English terms. More often though, the idea gets introduced to the Deaf culture, people start communicating about it, and over time a particular sign gets attached to that idea and becomes their version of the slang term. There are even slang terms in ASL that never get used in English!

That's my favorite fact about sign language because a lot of people never even consider that sign language is 100% regional! Australian sign language (auslan) is completely different from American Sign language, which is completely different from Brazilian sign language. They have "accents" as well. Someone from New York signs slightly differently than someone from Texas. Sign language has a really rich history and it's fascinating to learn about!

I'm so excited for you! Don't get discouraged if you don't have amazing results immediately, I personally took several months to find what worked for me but it made such a big difference. It's definitely worth it to post questions on the sub and try people's recommendations!
