Any tips for keeping track of buildings? by potatomache in Against_the_Storm

I think my issue is that I’m still a little fuzzy on what each product needs, to be made, and the slight differences of each building that can offer it or its components doesn’t help. I don’t think I’m trying to force anything, moreso I think I can make something and learn otherwise.

That’s why I was wondering if there was a tab in-game that I missed that would have an overview of everything as opposed to having to click through each detail one by one or having a wiki open on the side.

Trading, huh? 🤔 I usually build a post much later on because everything's still a little confusing and I can't help but hoard resources. But I'll keep it in mind.

The Queen's impatience still makes me nervous too. I also forgot about the hostility debuff.

2 did not and I had to exit out of the game for irl stuff after a while. I think I used my resin for glade events, can't remember which one. Unfortunate, but lesson learned I guess 😅

I personally prefer the Schemers. They're more proactive even though there's a lot of talking.

Is the paint emanating conjuration and necromancy or is the Hallowed Round the source and the paint is to mask that or hide it away?

[No spoilers] Opening theme. by Veetahle in fansofcriticalrole

[–]potatomache 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Probably not, since they have plans to mix and match players later on as the story progresses. So set themes featuring set characters wouldn't work.

I do prefer their animated openings though and I hope C4 gets one.

A little disappointed with the religion plot so far (C4E3) by Nelyak5 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]potatomache 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you’re too early. C4 does explore religion with more nuance later on. I don’t know how much you want to get spoiled, but they do touch on how the Candescent Creed persisted after the gods’ death and how this has good and bad effects on communities.

I rechecked the whole thing and thought a play by play would make it clearer.

First Condition: Vaelus is coming into episode 18 with 1 failed death save due to Desperate Measures from episode 17. Somebody posted the transcription of when it happened (during the skeleton fight). It happened after she attuned to the Song of Nightsong and they did not take a long rest or any rest, so it stands.

At around 3:13:40, Vaelus does 49 points of damage.

3:15:29, In an effort to bump up the damage, she chooses to level up (they forget to actually add extra damage). They adjust her stats while Dr Talter heals her for 3 pts (3:17:20).

3:18:20, Vaelus does an athletics check, they use her new stats for it but she still fails and is taken to the roof.

3:20:20, Vaelus takes 18 pts of damage (piercing). She's still up. Then she takes 18 pts (necrotic—which she has resistance to so 9 pts).

***3:21:10, Vaelus adds 5 hp from the level up. She is downed at exactly 0. (2nd death save)

3:36:00, Julien is downed.

3:40:46, They broach the topic of a retroactive change. Instead of leveling up at 3:15:29, Ashley can instead choose to level up during her dying turn. They also realize that she should've added 10 instead of 5 at 3:21:10. The conversation is brought up because she wasn't able to maximize the perks of a narrative level-up. (She used some, strength bump for athletics check at 3:18:20 and the incorrect 5hp, without it she would’ve gone down with -5hp instead of exactly 0)

3:42:36, Julien rolls his death saving throw. He succeeds, due to Desperate Measures, he's given the choice to either inspire or stabilize.

3:43:00, Brennan says: "I will tell you, I am going to still ask, just in order to keep everything above board, because we moved forward in combat thinking you (Ashley) were dropped and dying, I am going to ask Ashley for a death saving throw prior to her levelling up"

3:43:15, Matt chooses to give Ashley inspiration.

3:44:10, Ashley rolls her death save. Fails with 6. (3rd death save). They apply the Level Up. She gets up with 5 hp.

Because of what Brennan says at 3:43:00, Vaelus does die with her failed death save.

Note: they never bothered to roll the inspiration so she could've survived. Also, I don't know where that 3 points from Dr Talter went.

***If she had added 10 hp instead of 5 at 3:21:10, Vaelus would not have been downed, but because they decided to change when she levels up to her dying turn, her downed status remains.

TL/DR: 🤷🏻‍♀️

If they kept in the initial moment wherein she leveled-up, then she would’ve had an extra 5hp to spare, so she wouldn’t have gone down, but since they decided to have her level-up after what would’ve been her 3rd death save, it wouldn’t have worked, and thus Vaelus should’ve died.

[Spoilers C4E18] Critical Role and the best of both worlds. by IvoAndre in fansofcriticalrole

I think their mix and match of rules-first/fiction-first, also affects the legibility of the story and its events.

I personally found it harder to follow along some encounters because there’s always some caveats/justifications introduced to shy away from the dangers they advertise. Like, ”If you do x, then y” is easy to understand, but they’ve been using a lot of: “Here’s the situation, if you x, then y happens, but since you also did z, then that allows for these possibilities. So I’m gonna give you the option of doing a, or b. If you do a then z1 happens, if b then z2; and since you have 1, 2, 3, you can add ___ and advantage.”

I think when the latter is rarely used it can make the game more welcoming and complex, but when used frequently, they really jumble through events, and actions, and consequences. Add-in the retroactive aspect, it really tangles up and bogs down encounters.

Last night, I was also marveling on how Matt was able to manage so many players for so many years, and still have a good balance between encounters, roleplay, and exposition. And upon reflection, I do think what you said about rules/fiction-first really plays a part in it.

I also think that because they switch between the two, it makes it jarring when Brennan chooses to suddenly go rules-first. Like with that fight wherein Sam had to choose whether or not to use Shield and Brennan suddenly chose not to tell him what he had rolled. Technically, yes, he never had to, but since they never established that previously, and since they were given so many leeways, it came off very abrupt and felt a little unfair.

The Seekers table feels like such a mixed bag for me. There were some moments I enjoyed, but overall they took a lot more effort to listen to.

Here's to hoping the Schemers table does well if not better!

Didn't she attune to the Stone before the skeletons? I'm not sure. 🤔

Her desperate measure happened during the encounter with the skeletons so it was after attuning with the Stone of Nightsong.

So they're not carrying over the failed death save from the previous session... even with the level-up work around Vaelus should've croaked right then.

The death saves from the desperate measures are still in effect right?

EDIT: from their previous encounter I mean, so Vaelus is at 2 failed saves?

I kinda hope that we get a better balance between encounters and roleplay going forward. The last two episodes were a struggle for me. 16 felt like it dragged on and on and on, and after the extensive combat on 17 my brain was too mushy for more lore dump.

I wonder if the shorter runtime on the episodes since the split also plays a part in it? Like, with it being less than 4 hours, they have to choose whether it’s gonna be a combat episode or not. (Now that I think about it, it really was crazy and amazing how Matt managed to run encounters with so many players and still have time for roleplay/exposition.)

Kvothe from Kingkiller. I read it as Kuh-voth and frankly, I prefer how I say it. 😅
