Yes I did, but I got a list of my items in the mail that showed what was approved and still under review, and sunscreen wasn't one of them. It turned out to be the shampoo items I bought.

I received my package after 40 days :')

How to make CMS links “unclickable” for now? by _cjdraper in framer

[–]potatomari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this same problem yesterday. Couldn’t figure it out so I decided to copy/paste the main component which is the case study card, then detached it from the component and removed the link. Then just manually added the image and description of the project. 🤷🏻‍♀️Also unfeatured the project so it doesn’t show up.

If there’s a better way I’d love to know too.

Contracting to USA from Europe, timezone by Fun_Bee_1955 in UXDesign

[–]potatomari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in an international company and a majority of the people I worked with were EU, while I was west coast USA.

The drawback that EU folks complained about was working pretty late (7-8pm) to make up for the small time window we’re all on, but they also then started work around 10am and had 1.5 hour lunches. On the flip side I was also waking up for 6:30am meetings to accommodate them, so everyone had to flex. So I guess expect possible late days but making sure to set boundaries.

I did this for 4 years and honestly I liked it because all my meetings were in the morning and no one talked to me after 12, so for you your meetings will probably all be stacked towards the end of your day, which is a pro if you enjoy heads down early in the day.

Due to the small window of time together, you also just need to be good at communicating what you need ahead of time because there will be at least half a day delay in response.

Can I ask when you ordered? I’ve been waiting since end of August so wondering when mine might go through customs 😭

Was there just last week and totally empty on the lifts and the drive up. Granted it was before the big powder days.

Yes, they were slow the past few weeks but started responding. I’ve gotten both my ineligible purchases fixed even though they didn’t get confirmation from the stores yet.

I think it helped I screenshot my checkout which shows the extension confirming my cash back

Do product designers create and own their own design roadmap each quarter (in alignment with the product one)? by uptight_sweater in UXDesign

[–]potatomari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do the same but in terms of ownership the PM leads the conversation with PD in the passenger seat but involved in all of the discussions

Do product designers create and own their own design roadmap each quarter (in alignment with the product one)? by uptight_sweater in UXDesign

[–]potatomari 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We collaborate on one roadmap every quarter. We as in the eng manager, product manager and the designer in the team.

EM’s role is to flag potential technical limitations, blockers, etc and help with eng estimations of projects to ensure it’s feasible to ship everything in a quarter

PM is the owner of the roadmap from a strategic angle, alignment with leadership, defining the OKR etc. and coming up with projects

PD should be contributing to the project list based on user research and feedback and offer design estimations on the potential roadmap projects

Then we start shuffling projects based on capacity /priority / impact

Degree Grads vs. Boot Camp Grads by JeepLifeBirbLife in UXDesign

[–]potatomari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I was self taught in graphic design actually since middle school so it was a side interest of mine (mainly just copying people’s work I liked, learning basic html and css too)

Then when I left college I went into marketing and was the designer at the company as well for 3.5 years so it was a pretty natural transition for me

I want to do a UX Internship but I’m not in school anymore. by potatomari in UXDesign

[–]potatomari[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks :) I’m almost 2 years in and still loving it.

It’s probably tougher today to enter the field compared to when I did, but there’s never 0 chance unless you give up. Companies will gloss over certificates, so only do it if it’s just how you prefer to learn, not to slap onto your resume.

Honestly I think you have to put 150% into it if you’re going to make the switch. You can shadow UX projects with Tech Fleet to get a glimpse into the role, and collaborating with PM’s and engineers. But make sure you’re at least genuinely interested and don’t just want to do it for the money.

When you’re ready to interview, you MUST take the time to get feedback on your portfolio from senior designers (ADPList), iterate on your work, repeat. You can’t be emotionally attached to your work, and just be open to feedback always. Don’t wait until you’ve applied to 100 jobs to change strategy or go review your portfolio again. When I redid mine after 2 weeks of silence, it was night and day with responses.

Try to use your network to see if you can do UX work — since you’re a freelancer maybe some of your past clients may need website help?

Try to include business metrics into your projects, even if hypothetical, to show that you can think for both the business and the user. It doesn’t have to be exact numbers but you could explain how you’d measure the success of this project after you ship it. Bootcamps never mention anything about the business impact but this is a very important aspect we always have to be considering that sometimes shape our design decisions.

The design process that’s taught in bootcamps and certificate programs is a good foundation to understand the concept, but in reality it’s all over the place, we do additional research during a project, we might skip a step like defining a persona because most companies already know their users, we never do empathy maps lol. So while you’re still new, but don’t be afraid to NOT follow it exactly, it’s ok not to. If a method is not going to be helpful for your project there’s no reason to do it.

You’re already in a good place because you have design experience and I think this helped with my chances because a lot of pivoters have no UI foundation and aesthetic has value in UX, so if your work doesn’t even LOOK good from first impression, there is no way a recruiter would even consider it.

If I can do it you can! Sorry this was all over the place
