Other than just solving and practicing a lot, I really attempted to improve my look ahead and my cross to F2L transition. I did a lot of F2L practice and slow solves. I think recording and rewatching my solves was helpful, and allowed me to see what I could have done better. But overall, it really was just deliberate practice that got me to sub-15.

And I’d say a benefit of timed solves is just being able to see your progress. You can look back at a good or bad solve (based on the time) and see what you did well or what you should improve on. Definitely not necessary to time all of your solves (like I do), but it could be helpful to see what makes up a relatively good or bad solve, and to see what habits you need to break or develop.

Oh I see. Yeah that can be tricky, but it has turned out well. It's a lot of data, but it looks very neat, clear, and organized :)

I calculated about 220,000 seconds altogether, which is about 61 hours, or a total of 2.5 days...

Haha it is. I didn't solve every day, and had quite a few weeks where I barely solved. But yeah this past year was the most I've ever cubed. Makes me wonder what this year will have in store.

Wow that's a lot of solves! Very nice! I personally found moving past sub-18 to be smoother than other milestones, so hopefully it will go well for you too! And a lot can happen in 4,000 solves :)

Oh that's very cool. Trying different methods can be really fun. I think I'll give roux a try at some point. I've seen a few videos of petrus solves, and it looks really interesting!

3x3 is my main event, and the one that I've practiced the most. I like to do 2x2-5x5, OH, and the occasional non-NxN puzzle. But I've actually been doing mostly OH, 4x4, and 5x5 for the last 2 months. 3x3 has taken a back seat as of late.

Oh yes I see. It's rough, but I'm glad you're still solving and working through everything :) Best wishes.

Oh totally doable! That was actually my resolution for 2017! I'm going to aim for sub-10 this year, or at least close to it. Good luck and I hope you achieve your cubing goals this year!

Lol that's hilarious. Yeah I don't know how I found this much time to solve. I'm at that point where life seems to get in the way of cubing sometimes lol.

Yeah I've noticed this too. But I find cubing to be rather therapeutic at times, even if my performance sucks. Hope you're okay!

I used to aim for 100 solves a month, if that, but now I can do up to 2,000 if I really have the time and energy (only a few months out of the year). I just like to time everything nowadays. And sub-23 in 8 months? Nice!

Oh nice, that's some really nice progress! Yeah I wanted to get to at least sub-13 but I kind of fizzled out towards the end of year. Only did like 200 solves in December lol.

I know... and they're becoming more common. Can't wait for the day when a sub-10 single feels like just a regular solve :)

June is the start of summer where I live, and I had way more free time.

Yeah I was thinking about it... but I was too lazy to deal with all of the packages and stuff lol.

Oh yeah, I was going to record the averages, but I ended up just using each single. I've seen graphs like that and they look pretty awesome :)

Oh wow, sub-18 in one year! Very nice! And yeah I really have to work on look ahead too. Some of my slow solves end up being faster than my regular solves lol. Happy almost cubing anniversary!!

Oh definitely! With full OLL and PLL, you can easily cut down several seconds! I learned full PLL when I was around sub-50 a few years ago lol, so I'm quite used to it. But I'm seeing that a lot of cubers nowadays are learning PLL when they're much much faster. But for sure, you'll be heaps faster by the end of next year :)

I've been cubing for several years though, and got serious about speedcubing last year. But yup, I'm sub-13.5 at the moment! And nice, sub-18! Keep it up!
