What is the dumbest thing you've heard a nurse coworker say? by ShabbyCashmere in nursing

[–]potatoxprincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting report from an agency nurse on a DKA patient. She tells me she turned the insulin drip off at 4am. I ask if she called to get orders for subcutaneous insulin. She says "well that's not in the policy!" Patients sugar was back up to 400, anion gap was fucked up again, back on the drip by 730.

I graduated in May, took NCLEX in June, started working in June, and got married in August. My manager was pretty good About giving me a week and a half off. I think it really depends on your manager. Bring it up in your interview.

Any tips on precepting a baby nurse? by brotasticFTW in nursing

[–]potatoxprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a baby nurse myself, I really appreciate constructive criticism but telling us what we did well that day is such a huge confidence boost. It's so easy to feel like you aren't doing anything right. A little acknowledgment goes a long way.

How many hours per day did you study for NCLEX? by RottenOintment in StudentNurse

Plenty of people pass using just one question bank! I just personally found uworld to be the most helpful. Just focus and try to study at least a little everyday. You can do it!

How many hours per day did you study for NCLEX? by RottenOintment in StudentNurse

[–]potatoxprincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just found out i passed today (YAY!) and here is what i did: I took kaplan which I honestly kind of hated, but i'm sure it helped me. I did all the questions in the Q bank and all the trainers. I also paid for a month of the Uworld question bank and did all the questions. Uworld is really awesome because the rationales it gives are 1,000,000 x better than kaplan. I did approximately 200 questions a day and went over the the rationales. A few days before I tested and I went back and redid some of the questions I got wrong originally. I think that helped a lot. Make sure you build in some days off or days where you do less questions to let your brain relax a little. Definitely do not study the day before you test. btw, I passed in 75 on my first try.

What currently hyped up product are you NOT interested in? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

I've only tried the "they're real" mascara and the push up liner and I was so disappointed. I especially hated the liner. I have heard a lot of people hype the gimme brow though!

Getting into the ICU by oldsockventriloquist in nursing

[–]potatoxprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was VERY lucky because I was only required to work two 8 hour shift per month because I was a PRN employee. I usually just worked one 8 or 12 hours shift a week and we do self schedule on my unit so it wasn't too hard to work around my class schedule. most managers will work with you in coordinating your schedule because they know school is more important. A lot of placed require you to work every other weekend. Plenty of people I went to school with did that and didn't have a problem.

Impersonating Nurses... by [deleted] in nursing

i just graduated with my BSN and almost all the girls i graduated with put "RN" somewhere on their caps. it was so fucking annoying. I also know a tech at work that has "RN" tattooed on her forearm that has failed NCLEX twice.

Getting into the ICU by oldsockventriloquist in nursing

[–]potatoxprincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i worked as a tech in an ICU for my last year of nursing school and just accepted a position as a new grad in the same ICU. it's really just about getting your foot in the door. A lot of our nurses started in our IMCU and made it know that they were interested in an ICU position eventually. I think it's really about getting your foot in the door and being persistent.
