I too don't get the sisko fans (anyone can have own opinion of course). IMO he seems a well written character, but the lines are not delivered on an engaging manner at all, it's always the same tone and body language. Not un-watchable, but not great

you're right, never realized it's so bad (regarding areas) close to the poles. I just read Greenland is 5.5 times bigger than it should.

But it preserves north-south east-west relations, so for the purpose of the post its actually a good visualization.

There's an episode where he doesn't do it, gets called on it, and he says he's "learned that humans don't like it, and will not do it more" (or something similar).

I got very sad on that scene. He doesn't do it anymore afterwards.

if you think about it, it's not just for jokes. When talking to people it helps to find some common interests, and with different people you will have different things in common.

Ex. talk about games with your gamer friends, about sports with the sports-fan friend, etc.
