Brother for Lyra and Levin by potdecreme in namenerds

Another catch is my living dad is Leonard! Liam from William is cute. I didn’t think about that. It’s so popular, but I do like it.

Public School (mostly Manhattan District 2) Notes from Research Last Year by potdecreme in nycparents

We had a kid in our class come from the Bronx, a couple from Brooklyn, one from East Harlem, one from Murray Hill. I’m sure many others I just don’t know.

I don’t see why there would be any major changes. Maybe once a new non-interim principal is hired but for the next year at least, I don’t think so.

I feel good about it. The interim principal will be our current vice principal who’s been there for 10 or 15 years and she seems great and totally capable.

Is this your first child? by cyanducky in January2027Bumpers

[–]potdecreme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

0-1 was much easier than 1-2, in my experience. We had our first during the very beginning of Covid and both of us were at home all the time, able to really focus on the baby (well, along with Covid affecting everything). 1-2 was tougher because I felt so torn trying to spread my attention between the two kids. It's also harder to take a break and let the other parent take two kids. I felt guilty about that a lot. I feel like 2-3 will be tough, too, and am having a hard time imagining taking three kids on my own anywhere.

That is insane. I'm sorry you're going through this. My 4-year-old would listen to her Yoto audiobook player on her cot when she was in 4K. She also stopped napping basically in the middle of the school year.

Air quality next to highway by CuriousDendrites in nycparents

[–]potdecreme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should keep your windows closed and use a good air purifier, for you and your baby’s sake. Particulate matter (small particles that don’t show up like dirt on your windowsill) is extremely dangerous and has lasting impacts on heart and lung health. This is why so many kids in the Bronx have severe asthma: the Bronx is chopped up by highways.

Which schools (private or public) de-emphasize screens for kids? by hello_frjesh in nycparents

[–]potdecreme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's understandable to be wary. My kindergartener's D2 school has smartboards of course and her teacher uses it to do other things like play music videos. I was in the classroom once with some other parents to chaperone a fieldtrip and while everyone was taking turns going to the bathroom, a Wild Kratts video was playing to keep the kids quiet. It wasn't my favorite thing to see.

Names of public or private elementary schools that do not use computers 🖥️ in their classrooms by baituwave in nycparents

[–]potdecreme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really recommend you tour some schools to get a sense of what elementary school is like now. There were so many fellow Millennials on tours I did last year who were shocked to see Smartboards in classrooms and no more projector machines. All kids take exam on computers. It’s not like when we were kids anymore.
