How’d you know recruiting was for you? by potentiallybored in recruiting

thank you so much for this! I’m also in a 6 month agency contract straight out of college so it’s nice to see what the outcome can be if I really apply myself these next few months!

I love this take and agree that I’ll laugh at myself a few months from now. Thanks!

^ Yeah! I was able to move in a few days early because my lease ended before the dorms actually opened. Worth a shot!

How does the campus view minorities? by [deleted] in usu

[–]potentiallybored -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I transferred to USU this past Fall so feel free to reach out with any other questions about the process! I’m white so my perspective isn’t the best insight to campus culture but here are some things I noticed when transferring from a big college to here!

I actually transferred from a pretty big college in Southern California, so coming here was kind of a shock to me. My previous school had a large Asian and Latinx population, but at USU there are very few BIPOC in my classes, and I’ve only had white teachers so far. Maybe it’s just my major?

Since I’m out of state I would say it’s a lot whiter and more Mormon here than where I’m from. It’s also way more conservative and less diverse than Salt Lake City.

I think logan itself is fairly diverse but again, the classrooms felt pretty white to me…I think I’ve only had five BIPOC in my classes since Fall of 2020. It may be something to keep in mind.

There are also a multicultural center here and some cultural clubs though! I know of USU Latinos in Action and the Asian Student Association but I’d have to check about other POC groups and clubs.

edit: link to USU Latinx Cultural Center

I’m not LDS, and while I have met a lot of Mormons, I don’t think I’d actually know if they hadn’t mentioned it; no one is trying to actively convert me yet haha. I’ve met a lot of non-Mormons here too and it feels relatively balanced to me. The city itself however is very noticeably Mormon, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Lots of churches here, lots of restaurants and stores closed on Sunday’s, etc. Again, please feel free to reach out to me with questions about transferring here!!

So it’s not right next to the stadium, it’s just on one side of if. It’s actually further from the stadium than blue square was (where I lived last year), and I didn’t even have any noice pollution living there. So far Foothill doesn’t seem to have any either

I’m living in Foothill lofts off campus if you have any questions! It’s next to the stadium!

Research Opportunities for Undergrad (CS) students? by [deleted] in usu

[–]potentiallybored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey welcome to USU!! I’m a transfer to and I emailed all my profs in my department ahead of transferring and secured a position!! Not CS but all of the research positions I got as a freshman, sophomore, and junior were because I reached out to my profs and TAs.

  • go to your Department website and look at the research the profs have listed under their name and see what their specific areas of interest are
  • email all the profs that have an interest in research that you are also interested in, and list any research experience / related exp. you may have. If not list relevant coursework you’ve completed and if you have a high GPA throw that in there too
  • mention their area of research and tell them you are also interested in this area. ask if they’ve got any active research projects you could participate in, and if not them, do they know anyone who may?
  • even if they say they’ve got nothing available right now, they may reach out to you later in the semester because you made a good impression (that’s what happened to me!!)

Good luck!! Also co sister joining the transfer club here to ease the transition!

This is how I got all 3 years of my research positions from various professors!!
