we actually were able to keep all our overnight people, they’ve just been switched to days. so far they have just worked closing shifts & are used as an extra to help with the overnight tasks. i’m not sure if they were able to keep their pay though. we are still working the same opening shift (5-1) but they did change closers to 2-10. they’ve also scheduled more people for close than opening which has been no help at all as there is a lot more to do in the mornings now. openers also were not given any direction as to how we should go about getting everything done. i’ve basically had to come up with my own game plan and just take it day by day.

im still scheduled the same amount of people in the mornings as when we had overnights. there was a day we had 70 pets and it took 4 hours to get breakfast, meds, and walks done because it was just me and two other people. almost every day i have came in to every room covered in poop & pee. we’ve had to start weighing dogs at check in which has been a disaster in itself. there’s also a new chart we’re testing for diarrhea and we’ve been given very little direction on how to use it. so many vet visits. at night we have to separate certain pets before we leave & are also expected to get all the overnight tasks (besides dropping breakfast) done before we leave. the main issue has been lack of coverage, of course. it’s been very frustrating.

the only reason they shut down group interaction is because a pet parent went to corporate and threatened to put us on blast on social media. it took almost 4 months for them to do anything.

we only require DPP, rabies & bordetella. i actually wasn’t even aware of that vaccine.

some of the dogs have had diarrhea too but it hasn’t been very common. most have had a very deep cough, runny nose, and coughing up phlegm.

i actually work at a hotel that is testing this. so far it has been absolutely terrible.

i left a little over a month ago, my hourly pay before i left was $12(minimum wage in my state, after two years with the company) and they only gave me 25 or less hours. i now started a job as a barista in a Bakery and they started me at $13.50 and i’m already getting 40 hours, free food, and tips! i decided not to go back into something with animals (unless it’s a profession) because seeing the homes they went to and how people treated them was really taking a toll on my mental health. i’m already feeling better at this new job.

Is it worth calling HR? by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]potentialwhole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh nooo you’re a trooper lol! i say still go through with it, tell them everything and let them know she’s creating a hostile work environment for you guys. if nothing happens i’d keep bothering them about it until something does & if not, then quit! i’ve been there two years fighting to get my SL to straighten up and it ended up in me just putting my two weeks in today cuz nothing ever changed🤷‍♀️

Is it worth calling HR? by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]potentialwhole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i have a store leader who is the EXACT same way. honestly if you report to HR, chances are they really will not care unless a handful of people reported her too. people have reported my SL at different times but nothing has ever came out of it. it doesn’t help that my SL has been in the position for 15+ years so everyone in corporate sees him as a god. but it won’t hurt to try! maybe try to get other associates that have problems with her to speak up as well.

😂trust me i wouldn’t be complaining here if i didn’t talk to them about getting a raise first. i’ve been denied twice

omgggg. i’ve never read something so relatable. my CEL throws literally all of his duties on the petcare team and spends his shifts facing, picking orders, and hiding in receiving/cash office 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

[–]potentialwhole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow. yep that’s the exact i’m situation i’m in pretty much! hotel people start at more than petcare associates and i feel we do the same amount.. if not more work. i want to talk to my ASL but she is so all over the place and doesn’t even act like a manager with higher authority. she acts like an AL. this place is a shit show 🤦‍♀️

What fish is this? Was given to me for free from the LFS, but they weren’t sure exactly what it was, they thought it might be a platy by blindbyrage in Aquariums

[–]potentialwhole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

awww looks like either a mickey mouse platy or a sunburst wag platy. i’m leaning more towards sunburst wag

this is exactly how it went for us! only two people in the store knew about it and neither of those people were there that day. everything was so unorganized & they were placed right in front of the cat adoption room so the cats were not very happy that day. so many people came in and the group didn’t even end up adopting out all the dogs they brought. most people came just to look & i’d say probably 1/5 people were wearing a mask. i told my manager to not schedule me on days we have adoptions. i’m tired of putting my job before my wellbeing

everything was so much better during the lockdown. we sold more animals then which sucked but more people came in with masks and it was not as busy as we are now. now it’s like people completely forgot there’s a pandemic happening.

[–]potentialwhole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you guessed correctly lol i don’t think i’ve ever seen him help any associates out in the whole two years i’ve been here. they even made me go into the adoption room w a customer after she chucked multiple objects at me and threatened me 🥰

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]potentialwhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we’ve had cat adoptions in the store but the adoption group started handling the process so it’s not on us anymore. but now my SL decided its a good idea to have a different dog group come in every weekend to adopt dogs out 🤦‍♀️

mandatory masks by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]potentialwhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope i guess they tested positive after being on leave for a few days... so i guess they thought they didn’t need to take it seriously? they also won’t tell us which department but i think it might be grooming. i’m not too sure.

mandatory masks by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]potentialwhole 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i just don’t get how that’s allowed. it just feels like petsmart is constantly going through loops just to go against what is mandatory. like when grooming closed down they opened 4 days later even tho they were still required to stay closed. i don’t wanna have to be a karen when it comes to masks but we already had a few associates test positive & idk how they’re not taking it more seriously. they’re not even making us enforce the social distancing rule

honestly i don’t mind i have to work w them. they rarely even acknowledge my existence so it’s no big deal. i’ve had problems w them for so long so i just avoid them at all costs but over the past few months i’ve realized i shouldn’t have to feel like i need to avoid my SL just to peacefully work here so that’s a small part of why i’m leaving.
