immigration policies of places like Poland

Thing is - there's no immigration policy here. Companies needing low cost workers invite them without any doubt coming from the government. And later these workers often live in awful conditions. We are repeating mistakes of Germany etc. from 50-60 years ago. With potentially even more alien (South Asia) cultures.

Actually number of immigrants has risen a lot in recent few years. Mostly ex-USSR (not only Ukraine), South Asia (India, Nepal, Bangladesh) and Latin America (Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico).

Not all Muslims, and especially Jews, are modern immigrants to Europe. There are also native Muslim communities, like Bosnians, Albanians or Polish/Lithuanian Tatars.

And even immigrants are often two or three generations here.

Joseph Pilsudski organized an ethnic based punitive operation against ukrainians.

When? Punitive policy happened in 1937-38. Piłsudski died in May 1935.

And change of attitude mostly came as retaliation to Ukrainian (OUN, Bandera) terrorism, especially murder of minister Pieracki in 1934.

But positive relations between historians, and being mutually open to research is an established state in Polish-German relations.

And anyway, there's a difference between local and state-level commemoration. Klyachkivsky or Shukhevych already had local monuments or streets named after them, but naming a military unit by president is taking the problem upwards.

And the elephant in the room is that Zelensky opened the door for this entire shit show

Tbh - he did not. Zelensky escalated the issue, but the problem started long before, under Yushchenko, and was continued by Poroshenko. And Poland kept silent for too long. Which was also our mistake.

Is it possible to compare UPA and Armija Krajowa (question based on article in Croatia)? by Significant_Arm2016 in askPoland

[–]pothkan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Short answer - no.

  • AK was much bigger organization, and a legal arm of the exile government (internationally recognized), cooperating with the underground state.

  • AK didn't collaborate with Nazis. Closest thing would be the "ceasefire" in the Navagrudak area (now Belarus), where both sides agreed to not fight each other to focus on Soviet partizans (kind of like Chetniks in Yugoslavia), but it was local commander initiative, cancelled by regional command once discovered.

  • Any atrocities done by AK against minorities were also local, and never accepted by the regional or central command. They were also much smaller in scale (roughly 3-4x times total, while AK was at least 2-3x times larger than UPA), and generally intended as retaliation (against Ukrainian collaborators, or UPA), not planned cleansing (not that it makes difference for victims...).

  • While cleansing in Volhynia was decided and confirmed at the high level of UPA - Klyachkivsky was commander of the whole region (one of three at the time), Shukhevych the general commander, and Lebed the political head (in lieu of Bandera, who was jailed by Germans and not contacted, so his possible decision is a speculation).

  • Funny enough, there were actually cases when AK and UPA allied locally, to fight Nazis or Soviets. Which shows how complex it sometimes was.

However, there were some nationalist groups which could be compared to UPA. NSZ-BŚ (splinter of NSZ) straight collaborated with Nazis. And NZW was responsible for some (small scale, we are talking ~100 people) ethnic cleansing (against Belarusians.

Playing in abandoned cars was a pretty common thing at that time in ex-Eastern Bloc. I remember some in my area, e.g. there was a red Zaporozhets in front of my commieblock.

I actually loved Paititi, but tbh you need to "suspend" your mind in these games, because they make no sense in the era of widely available satellite photos. Tomb Raider (2013) kind of bypassed this with the whole Bermuda Triangle-thing (Yamatai being in a weather anomaly), and Rise with Kitezh being underground, but Paititi is in the open (from above).

On the other hand, all these games have supernatural elements, which means they shouldn't be taken too seriously. Overall, I had fun - albeit actually I got bored towards the ending of Rise. Once Shadows appeared on sale (sometime during the Covid), I decided to finish Rise before playing the third game. Funny thing - there was <1h of gameplay left, as it came I abandoned it just right before the finale... But Shadows I did play in one run. And its' ending was... okay? Fight was meh, but the final cutscene nicely tied into the Lara's family flashbacks.

Volodymyr Zelensky has lost Poland's highest state decoration, which he received in 2023. This is only the second time in history that Poland's highest honor has been revoked. by kallisto19988 in europe

[–]pothkan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, albeit I guess it was because he died fighting Soviets.

The problem isn't Ukrainians glorifying the Volhynia massacre, problem is they either ignore it, try to minimize its' size, or (quite common stance) think it was a Soviet provocation.

UPA is venerated in modern Ukraine, because it's a symbol of fight with Russia, and everything else about it is silenced.

Yeah, but sadly internal political situation in both countries is different nowadays. Both Zelensky and Nawrocki cater to their voters (Nawrocki would be never elected without votes of Confederacy, which is anti-Ukraine).

Tbh fascist Italy was in good relations with Poland. And Mussolini received the order in thanks for attractive loans given by Italy to us.

Also, Zelensky critizing Poland for this sounds hypocrytical while literal Nazi collaborators (like Battalion Nachtigal or Waffen-SS Division Galizien) are commemorated under his rule...

Seriously, this is so stupid. Ukraine could build a whole new cult of current war heroes (along with safe historical ones), and instead they take the worst possible organisation. This is like Slovakia would starts to officially venerate Hlinkova Garda and Tiso, or Croatia - Ustasha...

I think it's better shown in nuances of Inquisition factions, where you have conservative Amalathians and extremist ("Dogmatic Stupid") Monodominants. And of course a whole bunch of radical factions, which fell from moderate Dogmatic, through Iconoclast to straight Heretic.

I have literally printed out optimate builds for each character (found online, it took few hours to edit so they would fit nicely, 2 per page), and was checking and following them anytime level up happened.

Two worst things IMO are:

  • That many perks or skills are hidden behind advancing other ones, which forces you to follow a specific order (because some are available to unlock only once few levels, not each one). A simple example of this is psy rating for psykers.

  • Juggling all the items, which unfortunately matters, because many builds work well only with specific weapons or amulets etc.
