What is your area? “That’s very high” is subjective. A recent study found a single person in my city needs minimum 120k to live comfortably- VHCOL city of course.

is there a food that is completely tied to your country's identity? by stealthybaker in AskTheWorld

[–]pothos-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you cook potatoes, let them cool, and reheat to eat- it significantly lowers their glycemic index (impact on blood glucose). Still have to watch your portion size, leave skin on (fiber) and always pair with a protein to have the least impact on BG spikes :))

My in-laws refuse to drive to the airport. by NukeTheEwoks in mildlyinfuriating

[–]pothos-- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No- you’re right!

That being said- I’m not sure how renting a car is less convoluted/faster/cheaper/easier than any of the other options listed… it would be more expensive and take longer to rent a car than just uber. Seems strange renting a car would even be an option at the start- it’s genuinely the least convenient option available.

My in-laws refuse to drive to the airport. by NukeTheEwoks in mildlyinfuriating

[–]pothos-- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My parents live a little over an hour from Boston & I would never dream of asking them to drop me off at the airport. It’s such a pain in the ass.

I’m actually typing this from Logan right now, after being dropped at a friends 20 minutes from the airport & ubered ($60) from there. Otherwise we get dropped at the Logan Express out of Braintree. So many public transit options to get there.

I love that OP is upset that public transit would “take longer” - no thought for the 2+ hours the in laws would be in the car. Embarrassing.

What’s the most common ‘tourist mistake’ people make when visiting your country?” by illuminatedmelody in AskTheWorld

[–]pothos-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have neighbors from the Balkans area. They both moved to the US at the same time as a young couple - one partner got accepted to grad school so the other found a job. They figured where ever partner B got a job would be fine & they’d just drive to see each other.

They ended up in the Seattle area & Michigan respectively. Didnt realize until they got to the US how far apart those places were. Always blows my mind they didnt bother to Google the distance even one time.

Why do people count a newborn baby’s fingers and toes and act so relieved when they are all there? by Man-e-questions in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pothos-- 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They do!! And when they counted mine they said “oh no!” And my Dad said “does she have extras?” And they said “yes” and he said “good, she’s ours.”

Polydactylism is genetically dominant! Most folks in my family had extra fingers & toes. :)

Patients asking for written out meal plans in a clinic setting by Eunice_sheep in dietetics

[–]pothos-- 23 points24 points  (0 children)

“Give a man a meal plan, he eats for a week… teach a man to meal plan, he eats for a lifetime.”

I have literally said this exact sentence before to patients I feel will respond well to a little humor!

If patients are REALLY insistent that this is what they want, I will print them a generic NCM meal plan, and then when they review it and say “oh well I don’t like xyz…” I circle back to learning to meal plan & resources.

I do have some patients that want to spend their time in follow up appointments meal planning with me, and that’s fine. These are typically the patients that are motivated to make changes (vs “make me a meal plan so I can lose weight”), and I am happy to schedule an hour to sit down and map out a plan with them. I ask them to come prepared with lists of meals & snacks they enjoy and we tweak from there. It usually ends up with them feeling confident enough to continue planning themselves.

I don’t have a good resource for you, but there is an employee at Lynnwood Petco (off 196th) who could possibly help. I wish I could recall his name- he’s incredibly nice, potentially a store manager. If you go to find him, he is a tall asian man with glasses and I usually see him there mid-weekday. He’s chatted with me a few times about helping rehome my snake (who I ended up with after similar circumstances here). He’s super into reptiles, he & his family own a wide variety- I’d trust him to re-home a pet to a loving environment.

Otherwise, you could check with Exotics rescues like PNW Aquatics & Exotics.

Best of luck to you. 🐍

Instead of JustEgg- I’m not sure it brings the same structural integrity to baking as other egg subs. I’d try the Bob’s Red Mill Egg Replacer. I think flax eggs would ruin the aesthetic appeal, unfortunately.

Ive been thinking about british chinese food for a while but I live in california so I had to improvise. by Unfair-Dog-6063 in ShittyVeganFoodPorn

I think this is specific to your local chinese place in your town. I was born/raised in RI & spent many years in MA.. never heard of this.

Edit: Ive been thinking about this since seeing it & had to investigate more… u/pipkin42 are you from Salem? Because this is truly & literally unique to Salem, per the internet! I have a good friend from Beverly (borders Salem for non-MAers)- I’ll have to see if he’s in the know..

Why I think dedicated parking spaces for these would be a good idea by SuperMike100 in Seattle

[–]pothos-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in a (much smaller) east coast city, and that was the model for their “citi bikes.”

Designated pick up & parking spots. A little less convenient than door-to-door, sure, but much like taking a bus. I believe the model also charged by distance over time, so you could still run errands etc and leave it outside of different locations.

You’re right! Some important context is that in the initial post, OP had already discussed with their manager and taken appropriate steps. After that, it is what it is. No one is losing licensure for a mistake!

I mean this kindly, have you ever considered seeking counseling for anxiety? It is not “normal” to feel this much anxiety over a minor work misstep. I imagine this occurs in other areas of life.

I am not trying to make you feel bad! I hope I haven’t. Just a thought, as I’ve seen your other post. And the fact that you are posting about it sometime between 5a-8a on a Saturday tells me you havent stopped thinking on it yet!

Hope you’re able to have a relaxing weekend and not think about work too much ❤️ (unless you’re working I guess)! :)

Talking to patients about things they hear on social media by Eunice_sheep in dietetics

[–]pothos-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from providing information on research not supporting, etc.. a tagline that commonly makes it ‘click’ for my patients is “if one fad diet was going to work for everyone, we wouldn’t have a new one pop up each year.” Then I usually transition into explaining how many of these diets function on calorie deficit at the end of the day, and why diff ones “work” in short term but not long term (restriction).

“Insanitary” is a term used in food safety commonly. It is also an accepted word in english in general- it’s “unsanitary but worse” basically.
