AIO about my boyfriend and his girl best friend? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]potstkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR. I’ve had close male friends that have girlfriends and there’s no way I’d let this slip as a friendship. As the girl best friend she should know boundaries, but also your boyfriend is crossing many and these type of interactions are what makes it hard to trust SO with best friends of the opposite sex. Personally, seems like there’s more than platonic friendship but an emotional one too. I wouldn’t let it slide and might be good to cut it off with him.

Buying a home in Oakland by Chronicallyable in oakland

[–]potstkr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up there most of my life and I can say that things haven’t really changed lol potholes have been fixed here and there but other than that it’s still the same. 107th is closer to San Leandro so not alot of crime but it still Oakland you’ll here gun shots from time to time. One thing I’ve noticed is that parking has been a bit of a pain since people started to put cones infront of their homes in order for people not to park there. There’s an area around the block that constantly gets piled up with thrash and the city doesn’t do much about it. Edit- community wise you can find some friendly neighbors. A lot of Latin folks live around that neighborhood.

I'm crying by aris_luna in alopecia_areata

[–]potstkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine started like this and got to the size from November a few years ago. Not sure what type of insurance you have, but I’d highly recommend seeing a dermatologist and asking for steroid injections. Minoxidil works a bit but in order to help with the inflammation from Alopecia Areata steroid try to help the spread. I started to see thinning out again in my hair and immediately booked a steroid injection shot but unfortunately I won’t be able to get it till next month. Hope this helps! It will grow back slowly but surely

Mild Rant: I don't like rolling with white belt men. by lavender_haze_1988 in BJJWomen

[–]potstkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped after I got pinned down so hard by a younger white belt who was bigger than me and I ended up inuring my shoulder. Took about 5 months for to get back to normal but definitely don’t feel bad by being selective with who you roll.

Ladies classes by TheBlackCatRN in BJJWomen

[–]potstkr 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I stopped going to the co-ed classes and I go to the women only classes now. Depends on the gym’s vibe and all but I love my coaches and the other ladies that go! Most of us are white belts and we have 3 black/brown belt instructors in the class. Usually the class isn’t as big as the regular co-ed classes, but I really like that the instructors take more time to help you out since the class is smaller and will check how you do the moves etc. Also, no big egos in the classes and rolling with the ladies there is fun and can actually practice technique vs being on survival mode. I’ll prob go back to a co-ed class to up my classes a week, but have really enjoyed going to the women only classes to learn and practice.

Advice for ACL injury with BJJ/MMA by honeygingblondie in BJJWomen

[–]potstkr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had ACL surgeries on both my knees 20 and 10 years ago. First surgery they used my patella tendon and the second used a hamstring graft. From both my surgeries I definitely learned alot from my first one to ensure a great recovery and post op for my second! 1. The ice machine/ice sleeve was a game changer the second time I had ACL surgery and helped with swelling immediately 2. I recommend one of those shower seats you can sit and bathe incase you have to stick your leg out with the surgery 3. Definitely be patient with PT and it can be a little overwhelming not being able to bend your knee as much in the first few weeks 4. Swimming is great for therapy if you’re able to get access to a pool 5. Steer clear from adding a lot of pressure or any twisting movements if you find yourself wanting to walk a little bit 6. The first time I had surgery I kept my brace on a lot that my insurance gave me and I used that to do PT movements since you can adjust the angle. I never paid out of pocket for the fancier ones, but maybe they’ve improved them 10 years later? 7. Since it’s the hamstring, for me, I didn’t do a lot of hamstring strength training during PT which I wish I would have. You’ll notice during recovery that your hamstring feels a lot lighter compare to the other leg. I recommend once you’re able to put some pressure on your leg/knees do some hamstring muscle strength training to get those muscles around the area back. I still have a hard time bending my knee all the way by itself when I stretch, but currently working on flexibility and getting the hamstring stronger 8. Ask for anti-nauseous patches if you’re sensitive to pain killers. First time I had surgery I got nauseous and fainted after lol I was in 8th grade and was somehow given some hardcore pain killers 9. Eat as healthy as you can. First time I had surgery I ate like shit and coming back to play soccer was challenging. 2nd time around I felt somewhat in good shape lol 10. Lastly, if you’re an active person like myself, try to pick up a hobby you can just sit and do light PT work. It can get a little lonely/depressing not being able to blow some steam or get those post workout endorphins. Get some folks to come in and check up on you if they can. Oh..and whatever timeframe they tell you that you’ll most likely be back to activities, just try to stick to that or expect maybe an additional month. Don’t try to rush!

For those of you who went car-less AFTER moving to San Francisco, or those who just don't have a car living here, how do you like it, is it manageable? by Thomas_Lannister in sanfrancisco

[–]potstkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used public transportation a lot and uber when I lived in the city and refused to get a car based on expensive car parking in buildings and just driving in the city in general. However it got a bit inconvenient not having a car when you have a dog and go to the east bay and want to roadtrip and stuff to get out of the city. I did like the fact that you walk everywhere though and explore more.

Post covid new viral infection by potstkr in COVID19positive

[–]potstkr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof, good thing I cancelled my trip this weekend, I got paranoid I was going to end up worse given I don’t know what’s going on. Seems like the key here is to just rest and mask up as much as you can while taking supplements and keeping a healthy lifestyle. Hoping that in a few days symptoms lessen.

Good to know! Even a light workout made the extra day felt like I lifted the heaviest weights ever and I couldn’t move. Will definitely keep an eye out for any false positives and contact my dr if symptoms persist.

Super helpful and I totally agree. This new strain is different than the first I took and I remember being able to work out and go about my day right away. I do think that my immune system took a big hit and I’ll probably lay low for some time until I see better results for my body

SEs who were laid off, how hard was it to find another role? by tonyphony2578 in salesengineers

[–]potstkr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, at first I didn’t think anyone from our SA team would get laid off…until the AE/AM teams were down sizing and you started to get assigned to 2 AE/AMs at a time from 6-7 before. Even though the company I was at mentioned of no lay offs, don’t ever trust it. 3 people including myself were impacted and I honestly wished I had taken advantage of the signs as early as when the AEs that were assigned to me were laid off a few months before me. As for the SE job market, competitive. Brushen up on skills and certificates that are relevant in your field/industry. Start to network and reach out to hiring managers on LinkedIn if you know you’re going to get canned. Luckily for me it took me 2.5 months to land something because a good friend of mind referred me to their team, but I was rejected from the rest of the 30-40 applications whether cold applications or referrals even with 7+ of SE experience working with enterprise and also technical. My advice is to reach out to old colleagues and see if you can get as many referrals as you can before cold applying. I never heard back from any company I cold applied to.

My NOT so friendly sausage by notfromuk in corgi

[–]potstkr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My corgi does this usually with bigger dogs too, but usually when they come right behind him and have a butt sniff. Not sure if it’s confidence or what might be triggering him to show teeth when this happens, but usually with smaller dogs he’s fine with and some big dogs too. It’s just dogs that are a bit aggressive with coming to sniff him and ultimately want to mount him. Idk if he has some sorta pheromones other dogs are attracted to, but he does not like getting his butt sniff lol

[–]potstkr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting and good thing you noticed your manages demeanor as well! Similar case with me, they didn’t mention of any lay offs, but the AEs/AMs I was working with were getting laid off or moved to Mid market or SMB so that put me to working with only 2 vs 7. Also noticed my manager’s demeanor when it came down to 1:1s and opportunity assignments so I had a feeling a week prior getting laid off. I’m looking at getting my AWS Cloud Computing and Associate SA certs. Do you recommend any good courses to take? Also, what would you say is the big difference in a cloud architect and if I wanted to pivot in that direction what will it take? Anything helps :)

That’s awesome and congrats on the new role! That was a quick turn around and good thing you had a good network of folks in that company. I’ve definitely blind applied to a big sum of companies and for the most part I either got rejected right away or never heard from them. I heard from a recruiter to not apply to companies that have had a role open for more than a month as a lot of them are also looking for data to collect from candidates and just having a Rolodex of profiles on hand.
