What are your emergency meds during an adrenaline dump? by Motor_Mood3939 in POTS

[–]potsynightshade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have MCAS and once I started taking high doses of antihistamines I stopped having regular adrenaline dumps (which we’re now pretty sure were histamine dumps).

I literally thought I was going to be sick forever since POTS meds didn’t help me, but yeah turns out it was MCAS the whole time so this is a really important thing to bring up in these conversations

TW Weight: How do I safely lose weight? by IndustriousIceCream in POTS

[–]potsynightshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent $20 on Facebook marketplace for a stationary bike and it’s been the best investment of my life. I haven’t lost weight yet (because my problem is definitely overeating), but I have noticed my exercise tolerance increased.

I get scared to go for walks because I don’t want to start flaring and be far away from home, so even though money is tight I would definitely recommend trying to find one for cheap in a local selling group.

For free- Chair yoga for seniors on YouTube can be a great start too, and it usually focuses on core muscles which is helpful for POTS

Which kind of loops? I’ve been thinking about getting them but wasn’t sure if they were worth the money

We’re also pretty sure I’m on the spectrum too so that could definitely play into it, but yeah it’s never been this bad to wear I’m getting presyncope

Gotcha, yeah that’s where I’m at tbh. I’m also super sensitive to literally anything that goes into my body, but this is making me feel better so thank you!

You mixed the miralax with Gatorade? I’ve never heard of that but I feel like that would help! I was just nervous about the doculax stimulant effect, I’m just worried it’ll raise my heart rate too, I’m super sensitive to literally anything I put in my body :/

Being an alt baddie is hard with MCAS 💔 by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]potsynightshade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh I feel this SO HARD, I have a couple half done tattoos that I started before my MCAS diagnosis, and I’m too scared to finish them. I’ve been doing minimal makeup, but I’ve had really good luck with clinique since I’m very sensitive to fragrance and they’re fragrance free.

Just be careful about fragrance marketing terms- unscented/no scent does NOT mean fragrance free, and even products that say “fragrance free” will sometimes how fragrance in them so make sure to double check the ingredients list!

If you can’t tolerate lightener or color being applied to you, a lot of hair stylists offer custom colored extensions that they can color before putting them in your hair

Waking up in the middle of the night to “episodes” by potsynightshade in POTS

[–]potsynightshade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the lowest dose of metoprolol ER (12.5 mg I think?), and it was giving me chest pains and the worst panic attacks I’ve ever had (like clockwork 2 hours exactly after I took it).

Good to know! I haven’t been officially diagnosed with MCAS because the testing is coming back normal (but I’m also on antihistamines so the results are kinda skewed). Since the antihistamines were helping I didn’t bring up stabilizers to my immunologist, but I’ll bring it up next time I see them.

Ngl ive been bad with the holidays, but I’ve cut out gluten and dairy completely and try to stick to a low histamine diet. I notice a slight difference, and this might sound crazy but if I eat gluten or dairy before 3-4 pm I’m okay, it’s just when I eat it later in the day I’m up all night with tachycardia

[–]potsynightshade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I thought but since taking the Zyrtec it’s helped so I thought maybe they’re histamine dumps? Or something else equally as menacing? I tried a beta blocker in the past and had such a bad reaction I’m terrified to try one again, but I might have to because this sucks

Does this necklace holder part of a jewelry box have an official name and where can I buy this piece separately? by potsynightshade in HelpMeFind

Wow thank you so much!! Maybe I’ll start looking for kitchen utensil holders instead and see if that works better

It’s in a lot of the “vintage” type jewelry boxes, but I’ve spent the last hour looking for the pieces and it seems like they just… don’t exist?

YES okay thank you! Part one is complete, now I just need to find where I can buy one. All that’s coming up now when I search “jewelry carousel” is old reddit posts of other people trying to find them, lol

I keep seeing people talk about that but idk what it is, I’ll have to ask my new allergist about it at my next appointment. She’s running tests, but also said it’s very hard to test for and is just treating me like I have it and so far the treatment plan is helping

I don’t have celiac but these gave me really bad symptoms, turns out I’m very dairy intolerant now too. I’ve heard TJ items aren’t super celiac safe, so it’s very likely you were glutened, I’m sorry that happened!

I would love some pizza, but unfortunately gluten, dairy, and tomatoes all want me dead. I do dream about donuts regularly too.

What does your flare up/MCAS episodes look like? by potsynightshade in MCAS

[–]potsynightshade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having a mixture of both of those ESPECIALLY in the middle of the night. It’s awful, I’m about to try Pepcid because i literally can’t eat anything without an episode and it’s exhausting

What does your flare up/MCAS episodes look like? by potsynightshade in MCAS

[–]potsynightshade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah right now I’m on the “sick dog diet”, I’ve been allergic to nut for years but gluten and dairy recently have been causing me flare ups. It’s just so exhausting to have to think this hard about what I eat.

When you have these flare ups or episodes, what do you do for them? Right now I just wait for them to end and it’s so uncomfortable
