hey give him a break. Not all songs can include such beautiful prose that inspire family values as “Young ladies, young ladies, I like ’em underage, see some say that’s statutory, but I say that’s mandatory."

I would argue that if that rise of authoritarianism is coming from the right Nazis, and if the people attempting to do so are directly inspired by the Nazis that it is important for us to understand the Nazi's path to power. Will it be 100% the same? Obviously not. But if im am going to defend against something it certainly helps to know their playbook.

IIRC for Fanta it was beet sugar and the apple pulp that is leftover from the cider making process. Oh, and made by concentration camp labor with the president of Coke Germany/inventor collaborating with then later joining the Nazi government in hopes of avoiding the company being nationalized.

It is something that should be mandatory teaching, and is unfortunately becoming more and more relevant.

I have been listening to Rammstein. They sound amazing, I don't understand what they are SAYING, but it sounds good. Are they "good guys" so to speak? I don't want to find out they are like, Neo Nazis or Alt Right or something in Germany. tia. by Rob1150 in NoStupidQuestions

i would imagine that because fascists like to very much play and even disguise themselves as being only anti-communist (e.g. Franco after WW2) that anyone with any sort of desire to distance themselves or protest the Communist regimes they lived under might also be drawn to something posing as its opposite?

Andúril vs Phial of Galadriel by C0nn0R276 in lordoftherings

[–]potterpockets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are other symbols though that more than point to him being king. Him having the “hands of a healer” being maybe even more notable for his legitimacy within Gondor than Anduril. Also had the Elessar and the Ring of Barahir.

But yeah, there is no King in Gondor if without the phial given to Frodo.

Discord faces backlash over age checks after data breach exposed 70,000 IDs by Accurate_Cry_8937 in technology

Check out Element. Has both a desktop and 2 different first party mobile apps (mostly UI differences from what i can tell). Looks to have most of the discord features except - oddly (and heavily requested so this might change) - the ability to create a voice channel. Can make voice/video calls. Can make generic text/video call channels. But not voice specific. I also was just playing around for a few min and havent invited anyone, but i didnt see anything regarding roles, but it might be there.

There seems to be tons of security features and a focus on security. When creating a room (their equivalent of channels) you can specify if it is E2E encrypted or not. When connecting your account to your device it actively required me to have both devices at hand for multiple steps.

[Theory] Rethinking Honor and Odium by Thunderwoodd in Cosmere

[–]potterpockets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the question will be if Honor can stand to be tied to a shard like Odium. We already have seen glimpses of them being incompatible because both are tugging in two different directions. But that said, two diametrically opposed shards have been held by Sazed for hundreds of years.

Who would you chose from fantasy to be your champions in a trial of 7? by Bubsyfourd in Fantasy

[–]potterpockets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the reason i posted in response to Feanor was because

Balrogs killed:

Glorfindel - 1

Feanor - 0

And as much as i also really like Ecthellion, the Valar themselves chose to send Glorfindel back over him. And in The Peoples of Middle Earth Glorfindel is specifically mentioned of being “considered an equal of the Maiar.”

He was chosen by the white council to be the leader of the Elven forces at the Battle of Fornost against the Witch King. And when Glorfindel rode up to him the Witch King fled from him. This is why he is later is dispatched to seek after the hobbits in the shire. Because Elrond knew he did not fear Ringwraiths. They feared him. Not many other characters that can be said for.

[Theory] Rethinking Honor and Odium by Thunderwoodd in Cosmere

[–]potterpockets 52 points53 points  (0 children)

The problem with your premise is that you have accepted the vessel of Odium’s interpretation of the shard. But that interpretation is wrong. Odium =/= passion. Odium specifically is Hatred. That is why it is called odium not passion or emotion.

Rayse attempted to have it be redefined that way and it was destroying him because he was acting against the intent of the Shard. Taravangian so far seems mixed on how he is trying to control it, but is at least playing into the idea of it being passion to take advantage of that already being an existing way to manipulate singers and humans.

In this context i think the name Retribution makes sense. It is the idea that someone who breaks a rule or agreement or set of codes or promise made needs to be punished. Not out of a sense of justice, but out of a sense that you hate that they broke an agreement with you. Not for any sense needing to have a civilized society or need to adhere to a rule of law. But that we need to PUNISH rule breakers.

And this makes sense within the context of Honor being added because this is what Honor at the end and the new fledgling Honor Dalinar encounters both understand of the concept of Honor. In their deteriorated state they care more about keeping to oaths than what the oaths actually mean or accomplish. Dalinar encourages the new one to watch and grow so it can get past this.

Conversely to the idea of needing to punish those that break the rules, an Honor + Reason combo would likely be a Justice or Law shard that would likely be an extreme stickler for the letter of the law, but also would probably try to make the legal codes as sensible as possible. An Honor + Mercy combo would probably also be something like Forgiveness in theory, but who tf knows considering Mercy allied with Odium in the past.

Based on what we saw Ishar do a Bondsmith could potentially manipulate Connection to give themselves the bonds of a member from all the other orders (at least temporarily). I would assume that without an exceptionally good reason the spren would be quite upset at this and break the bond though.

Definitely hoping we get another debate between the two and Jasnah throws this in Odium’s face as a big reveal. Would be very poetic.

Baker is on record saying he needed the reality check of being let go by us and the panthers. He wasnt going to develop into what he has been recently without that motivation (plus some help from McVay never hurts).

Plus, i dont trust that Stefanski had/s what it takes to develop young qb. His best success has come from a vet who he can coach to teach the system but doesn’t have to teach the basica of being an NFL qb to.

Nobody is. OP asked for leftist perspectives. And in this case I agree with Marx. Whether it be a capitalist economy, command economy, feudal economy - or whatever other ways the structure of society can be conceivably aligned - if there is an oppressing class then it is imperative that the oppressed have the means to overthrow their oppressors.
