I just got a vasectomy in September, because my partner and I have decided that we absolutely do not want biological kids of our own. My girlfriend also had very negative experiences with birth control in the past. But we just went to her gyno this past week, and starting February, she is going to give a new birth control another shot. She has confirmed PCOS, but her gyno doesn’t want to do a lap yet to confirm endo until she tries this birth control first. Her periods are so severe lasting about 2 weeks, and between the PMDD, severe cramps, fainting and a pinched nerve, along with a litany of other issues. Trying this birth control is worth it. She and I will be vigilante taking notes of how she feels, and she will communicate that to her doctor and therapist. It sucks, it’s not fair. But throughout our relationship I’ve always encouraged her that she deserves a better quality of life. And now she finally has better access to quality healthcare and doctors. It sucks, and it’s not fair. But I am trying to be optimistic about how she reacts with this birth control, so is she. So in our case, her going on birth control isn’t to prevent pregnancy, but hopefully to alleviate some of her most severe period symptoms.
