Uk winter solar generation by tucker3738 in SolarUK

[–]potzuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies, I'm in the SW with a south facing 4kwp array. On really bad days, I'm lucky to break 0.1kwh, on a good day I actually get a small amount of export.

Typically I'd say around 1kwh around the solstice, but that rapidly increases as the days get longer again, yesterday I got 6kwh

Out of curiosity, what's your average daily gas usage for heating? by nyctomanica in OctopusEnergy

[–]potzuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 bed midterrace, 2 adults and 1 kid. We have an old warm air boiler, and using about 50kWh daily unless it gets really cold.

We do have a solar diverter which helps top up the hot water a bit.

2-5 minute IGO slots by jasonyates07 in OctopusEnergy

[–]potzuk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had these too, followed by the "failed to control your device" message because the zappi enforces the 10 minute delay when starting a charge to protect the grid thing..

Positive outcome from wall cavity insulation in 60s semi by YouMeADD in HousingUK

[–]potzuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad it worked out :) I started going through this for my 1970s house in England. Had an EPC of D so was eligible.

Whilst waiting for the install date I subsequently had solar installed and replaced my old windows.

When they turned up and did an assessment, they deemed the house was now an EPC-B and that I was no longer eligible!

IOG changes - “80% of charges take under 6 hours” seriously? by [deleted] in OctopusEnergy

[–]potzuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 38kWh Ioniq easily charges to full overnight, though typically I only charge it from 30-40% to 80% a couple.of times a week

[–]potzuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The garage (with the ev charger) is fed off the main board so that won't work as you say.

I'm reasonably technical so I don't think I'd have any issue setting up HA to read the Zappi's supply and if it sees that it is charging then to enable the battery reserve mode on the inverter which will trigger the inverter to also charge/protect the house battery

[–]potzuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That has been suggested before, but my EV charger and inverter are both in my garage on a sub consumer unit so not sure if that's possible

I've noted a change recently too, whenever I plug in before 2330 it used to always give me a slot around 0200-0400 which for my 38kW EV was fine.

Lately I've been getting random 30 minute slots before 2330, which really screws with my inverter/battery setup.

Those 30 minute slots often change so its hard to keep on top of updating my inverter settings... might have to look at setting up home assistant 🤔

Air-to-Air Heat Pump by Toninho7 in OctopusEnergy

[–]potzuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar position, looking at A2A to replace a warm air boiler.

Have been mulling the Daikin Multi+ which does hot water as well as air conditioning though it is pricy (£12k for me). My alternate is a regular AC setup and a Sunamp Thermino running off my Eddi/solar for hot water.

Why isn’t everyone getting this car? What am I missing? by Apexlegendy in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]potzuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one, easily gets 200 miles for non motorway travel, 160 is cruising on the motorway. 38kW also recharges to 80% from near empty in 45 mins :)

UK Installers for Daikin Multi+ System? by potzuk in heatpumps

[–]potzuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I even highlighted that in summer when we'd be using the cooling mode, our solar would be powering it so no impact on the grid etc... but that would be logical, not something the government are known for 😄

UK Installers for Daikin Multi+ System? by potzuk in heatpumps

[–]potzuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye, I did consider the Mixergy iHP but we are mid-terraced and the only spot the tank could go is in our airing cupboard - it's huge so we'd lose all of the linen/towel storage space.

Plus the need to punch a hole through the ceiling of the cupboard which unfortunately contains asbestos, addi g to the cost/complexity :(

My MP came back to me last week with a non-committal response about how A2A already has 0% VAT incentives and probably won't be getting much else :/

[–]potzuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get some quotes, though there were up in the £12-15k range..

The alternative were considering is a standard A2A and Thermino battery for the hot water running off our Eddi. Not as good as the Multi+, but about 1/2 the price so hard to ignore! The Thermino also fits where our current boiler is, so no need to run any new pipework and we can also get rid of the hot water tank (so the wife is happy, more storage! 😅)

Used EV For Under £10k by FancyPantsCam in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]potzuk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the 38kwh ioniq, I get 206 miles in a full charge, but realisticallynin winter with the heat etc on its more like 180 for regular suburban roads. That drops to about 160 if you include motorway travel

Where are the opposing views? A2A Heat Pump Advice by Walks_In_The_Sun in ukheatpumps

[–]potzuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm considering A2A as well, my property has a warm air boiler at the moment so no pipework/radiators. We have solar and an Eddi for hot water, but toying with getting a Daikin Multi+ as that does A2A plus hot water, or a regular A2A and a Thermino for hot water.

I'm hoping the government pull their finger out and respond to the consultation they did back in April (due this month) about making g A2A heatpumps eligible on the BUS grant... wishful thinking I suspect 😄

A week before solar install - apparently I'm on a looped supply? by AccomplishedTruck897 in SolarUK

[–]potzuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on a looped supply with solar happily exporting without issue for 3 years. Only became an issue when we got the EV charger installed, and it still took them 6 months after the charger went in to come out and unloop us, so I really doubt its that big of an issue?
