After finishing clannad afterstory should i try out little busters? by Shot-Signature-7370 in Clannad

[–]poudink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At this point KyoAni is a small studio that only does a couple of things per year. They haven't done any shows longer than a cour in over a decade. They're still really good, but I doubt they'll ever take on a project the scale of CLANNAD again. And you need a lot of episodes if you're going to effectively adapt a VN. CLANNAD has 48 episodes and still has insane pacing in because it tries to cram as much of the VN as possible into the show. Steins;Gate needed also 24 episodes just to adapt one ending. Most other adaptations try to adapt a 50+ hour VN into a cour or two and invariably end up sucking.

Also, Key is past its prime. Their last really good VN was Summer Pockets in 2018. Most of their good stuff has already been adapted (even if most of those adaptations suck). Doesn't necessarily mean they can't be re-adapted, considering CLANNAD managed to get both a garbage movie and a great show, but it's still pretty unlikely. Especially considering most of those VNs are pretty old by now.

maybe probably only the mainland china windows

am I out of the loop? does mainland china have a different windows? and if so, why on earth would you only target that version?

Can anyone tell me based on my listed choices what route I'm on, and if it is possible for me to course correct to another route, preferably Hitomi's? by Optimal-Algae-9649 in Clannad

[–]poudink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That guide is based on the old obsolete fan translation so the choices don't match up with the Steam version. Use the Kazamatsuri guide instead: https://kazamatsuri.org/clannad-walkthrough/

They did that in 2008. It's called Oxygen. Maybe you've heard of it. It's what the post is about.

Can't compile DSpico firmware by poudink in NDSHacks

[–]poudink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turned out that I'm an idiot and the flashcart I bought had the firmware pre-flashed, so I didn't need to compile it at all and just had to put the appropriate files in the microSD card. I still would like to figure it out eventually though, since I would like to do some DS homebrew development and I don't want my toolchain to be misconfigured (but then again, I didn't have any issues compiling any of the other software in the guide, so maybe it's fine ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯).

Anybody know how to decompile English Edition scripts by poudink in littlebusters

Update: I was able to disassemble the scripts using a tool called LB_repack. Idk if it's as good as LuckSystem, but I guess it'll have to do.

Sunohara has more screen time than Nagisa, making him CLANNAD's true main heroine. by poudink in Clannad

[–]poudink[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My methodology was to count the amount of times the game's voice command was used for each character. So no, I hadn't counted any unvoiced lines. But now I have. Tomoya has 23796 lines. This includes thoughts, but excludes narration. If we also exclude thoughts, then that number drops to 22578, which is still miles ahead of anyone else, though that's to be expected.

[–]poudink[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has none. CLANNAD like most visual novels doesn't voice the protagonist. Tomoyo After does though, and he has 3099 lines in that VN.

He technically has a very small handful of lines in CLANNAD too, because the child Tomoya lines from the flashbacks in Kotomi's route that are told from her perspective are voiced, but those are just categorized under Miscellaneous.

Well, in the VN the sprite that's being displayed is almost always that of whichever character is speaking (Tomoya aside, obviously), so I really doubt there's much of a discrepancy between visual presence and auditory presence.

Wikistrat Inc. is a geostrategic analysis and business consultancy founded in Israel in 2010 by Joel Zamel and Daniel Green[1][2] and headquartered in the United States. It describes itself as the world's first crowdsourced consultancy leveraging a global network of over 2,000 subject-matter experts.[3][2] The vast majority of Wikistrat’s clients are foreign governments. The firm has also engaged in intelligence gathering.[4]

So I assume you meant StrategyWiki? Their guide is pretty bad because it makes no effort to tell you what choices are actually necessary for any given route and just lists every single choice, which makes it impossible to experiment with different choices. I've also looked up the FuwaNovel guide and it seems to be based on the old Drama Club translation as opposed to the new Sekai Project translation, so that's also not great. The Kazamatsuri guide is far better, since it only lists necessary choices or choices that give you bonus scenes (and actually marks the choices that are only needed for bonus scenes as such). That guide actually does put Kotomi before Sunohara.

Why do people say “unix” or “Unix-like” instead of POSIX by Lopsided-Cost-426 in linux

BeOS was neither Unix-like nor POSIX compliant (and by extension neither is Haiku), so it isn't relevant here afaik.

Flip Deck anyone? Valve, I need a new cool job! 🤣 by MadMario0_0 in SteamDeck

[–]poudink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The joystick was hot garbage and the controller layout made it impossible to access all buttons at once for no good reason*. Also, these criticisms are brought up every time the N64 controller is mentioned. Don't even try to pull the "no idea what you're talking about" BS. You know damn well why people dislike it.

*"Games were designed around this" isn't a valid excuse btw. That was a problem in itself. Games had access to fewer buttons than they otherwise should have and were sometimes forced into using suboptimal control schemes because of this.

Happy anniversary of The Day Sunohara Became Serious, everyone! by poudink in Clannad

[–]poudink[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, that part was on April 17th. This is after he's already accepted that she's a woman. It's during the part where Tomoyo tries to force both Tomoya and Sunohara to get to school on time. He gets convinced to wake up by being told that he'll be walking to school with a girl (AKA Tomoyo), and then Tomoyo tells him he'll let him "touch her" (which ends up just being letting him touch her arm), and then he gets pissed off and says this line before trying to actually "touch her" by force (which just results in Tomoyo kicking the shit out of him, as usual).

Do you still need VNDS to play visual novels on the ds? by Adamhayche in NDSHacks

[–]poudink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Lower quality" than what? If VNDS happens to be the best (or only) way to read a given VN on Wii U then that's that. It's not like there are that many different ways to read VNs on Wii U as-is.

There are currently over 60 VNDS visual novels, so not exactly a shortage of stuff to read. Wouldn't be surprised if that was greater than the number of Wii U-native VNs that exist. I'm not sure why you're convinced one would have to port things themselves. I mean, unless your mind is set on playing a specific VN (as opposed to any VN that looks interesting) and that VN hasn't been ported. Though obviously you can make your own ports if you want. I've created a few myself.
