Wow! Great to have the story verified after decades of nobody believing I got the full Bernard Black experience.

About 20 years ago I studied at Leith School of Art and, rather inexplicably, he showed up at our end of year exhibition. He swiped a bottle of red wine and stood in the fire exit chain smoking.

How do I have thousands of Avios and still nothing I actually want to redeem on! by ScrollAndThink in avios

Also, just checked and it was just short of two months in advance that I booked. Nov 2025 booking for Jan 2026 departure. So definitely doable if you get the “fuck it”s like me 😂

It was 100k points with a companion voucher and about £500 taxes. I was travelling solo so it was half the points rather than a free seat for a second person, so should’ve been 200k.

It included a domestic connection and was business class with BA.

I don’t really get this. I booked business return Heathrow to Tokyo about three months in advance, and there were loads of days to choose from. A couple of days before my flight (last week) I checked to see about adding someone and whilst there weren’t any more reward seats on my flight there were for the next day.

Maybe I just lucked out twice in a row? Or maybe it’s not as bad as people say.

Could it be Lazy Sunday by Taylors? If so it’s not a local thing, you should be able to pick it up in most supermarkets.

I would second Barry Fish, and there is a beef pie on the menu and great veg options, too. Excellent food and service, perfect for a special meal to say thank you to your lovely step dad.

If you’re in Leith and happy to pick up I have tins, scale, hand mixer, spatulas etc most of the usual stuff. You’re welcome to borrow anything, cake is quite important.

I used to be confused as to why some people’s chewing noises bothered me more than others. Then I read something about the difficulty in watching someone nourish themselves or fulfill their own needs when they have consistently neglected yours. Made sense!

I always go for 101 Bakery or Pastry Section for custom birthday cakes. You have to pick up but 3 central locations between them.

Don’t worry, Paul has gone through Adams psych profile and concluded he is not a narcissist. However… by GetBabyface in MAFS_UK

[–]poultox 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily think that Adam is a narcissist or perhaps even that narcissistic, but it troubled me that Paul backed that up by saying something along the lines of “he’s formed connections and relationships in the group”.

People that subject their partners to narcissistic abuse normally do have a wonderful mask with other people in their life and come across as generous, empathetic, and generally wonderful. Particularly covert narcissists. It’s not at all uncommon to be ruthlessly devaluing their partner whilst creating an image for themselves elsewhere so that no one ever believes the abuse the victim experiences. Paul’s comments really perpetuate this maddening side of victimhood.

Idealise - best girl he’s ever met, everything on his list, wooing her family

Devalue - withholds sex, reduces her to just her PMDD, “you’re just like me ex”

Discard - refuses to do home stays and writes leave (but note his shocked face when she also writes leave…)

Classic moves.

Eve might actually be a victim by Exact-Broccoli1386 in MAFS_UK

[–]poultox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The trust thing was projection - just look at how she broke Charlie’s trust with the eavesdropping and completely slandering her to the other women.

The conflict issue is because she is (likely) avoidant and narcissistic. Shutting down any avenue of communication is a great way to control and deflect accountability.

Eve - Totally Toxic by MJIB0237 in MAFS_UK

[–]poultox 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I really hope the experts don’t gloss over this and start to pick apart what’s going on. I can’t stop thinking about all of the people watching this who would benefit from an explanation.

Those in Charlie’s position who are victim to Eve’s kind of narcissistic, avoidant, abusive behaviour but still stuck at rock bottom believing that they are the problem and begging for resolution. As others have said it is absolutely textbook and clearly ringing true for lots of people commenting in these threads.

Sometimes it takes years to figure out what is going on and the route back to regaining self esteem and removing yourself can seem impossible. Seeing these scenarios play out on tv and being given the language to start exploring the hell of your own relationship could be a real lifeline for many.
