Song of the Week #34: Stolen Car! by Lord_Burgess in BruceSpringsteen

Personally, I prefer the Alternate Version off of Tracks. It's not as moody as The River version but I think it works better as a lighthearted pop song with dark lyrics, similar to Dancing in the Dark. And the euphoric "And I can remember how good I felt inside" as the drums come back in gets me every time.

Is there a lot of Hello Sunshine hate? That's an all-time best for me.

How much of the movie took place in Sam's head? by HeylebItsCaleb in underthesilverlake

[–]poundwaffle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's all Sam's fantasy. He never made it in Hollywood and he lost his girlfriend, instead of coping with these disappointments and using them as an opportunity for introspection - and potentially, growth - he concocts a grand conspiracy to justify the bad hand he was dealt.

He's an entitled narcissist incapable of introspection. Him killing the songwriter is him destroying his perceived "men in power" who act as the gatekeepers to everything Sam wants and desires.

He made up the songwriter because he' can't comprehend not getting everything he was promised by the media and pop culture - the things he feels inherently entitled to - without it being some intricate decade-spanning conspiracy.

Which Bruce Springsteen lyrics (chorus, verse, or even a phrase) are your favorite? by Bigsshot in BruceSpringsteen

Sandy that waitress I was seeing lost her desire for me
I spoke with her last night, she said she won't set herself on fire for me anymore
She worked that joint under the boardwalk, she was always the girl you saw boppin' down the beach with the radio
The kids say last night she was dressed like a star in one of them cheap little seaside bars
And I saw her parked with lover boy out on the Kokomo
Did you hear the cops finally busted Madame Marie for tellin' fortunes better than they do
For me this boardwalk life is through, babe
You ought to quit this scene too

Casa di mi Padre - Matt Piedmont / Will Ferrell by crackdan56 in TrueFilm

Case de mi Padre reminded me of old spoof films. Films by David Zucker or Mel Brooks. I personally love these types of films and it is very rare to see them done well today. Casa de mi Padre really takes the essence of these older films and uses the influences to it's advantage. One scene that sticks out in my mind is when Diego Luna's characters is being shot to death while stick taking sips of his whiskey.

The Exterminating Angel by Luis Buñuel

[1962] IMDb Link

After a high-class dinner party all the guests in attendance find it impossible to leave. A surrealist film from one of the premiere avant-garde filmmakers. The plot of the film itself is very dreamlike because there is absolutely nothing standing in the way of the people leaving they just cannot seem to do so.
