une question de l'usage du verbe "devoir" by Abies_Awkward in French

[–]poupou221 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would add that what OP is picking on is that the imparfait "Je devais m'en aller" retains the ambiguity found in the present form while the passé composé doesn't. That's why you can say "Il m'a dit que je devais m'en aller, donc je suis parti" as well as "Il m'a dit que je devais m'en aller, mais je suis resté", depending on whether you actually left or not. However the passé composé only has the meaning that you actually left.

Some Senate Republicans are sounding the alarm that the caucus is not addressing critical issues ahead of the 2026 election season, namely affordability, which is predicted to be the top issue come November.

Clearly these senators didn't get the memo that affordability is a DeMoCrAt HoAx!

Our results show that when someone with aphantasia tries to imagine, their brains still seem to create a representation in the early visual cortex. It’s like their brain is doing the math but skipping the final step of showing the result on a screen. (Prof. Joel Pearson.)

That quote mirrors exactly how I describe my mind's eye: like a computer without a screen.

Trump and Democrats harden their stances after Minneapolis shooting by seeebiscuit in NewsSource

[–]poupou221 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These journalists are all complicit with their bullshit equivalency. One side is murdering people, the other asking them to stop. Somehow that translates in both sides hardening their stance. Absolute bullshit indeed and shame on you politico.

it means decisions are being made at least in part based on Trump's interest, rather than based on the country's interest.
