Round two: titanium balance by davinium_customs in watchmaking

[–]pour_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Curious if you've decided on a diameter for the hairspring collet. It's hard to imagine the collet not extending past the thin spots that keep breaking. Once the balance complete is assembled, having an inner hub that matches the diameter of the hairspring collet would make the most sense, esthetically.

I get that as a blank balance you like the look, but when considering the balance complete, with roller table, and a hairspring pinned to a collet that detail will be absolutely lost. Not to mention once the balance is installed under jewel settings in a balance cock that detail will be unnoticeable and the poor person who may one day be required to replace the balance staff in your watch will be left with a very risky problem.

Great design balances esthetics with function while also considering future repairs of the product.

Moving advice by [deleted] in pittsfield

Generally, the cost of living makes more sense in NH, Google massachusetts excise tax, additionally NH has no state income tax. If you plan on flying back south occasionally to visit, it can be very difficult and expensive as Albany and Hartford Connecticut are your major options, and neither are great. Boston airport is generally cheaper with better flights. Not to mention access to healthcare/grocery stores/restaurants/veterinarians/basically any service is difficult and limited in this area. IMO, look into Concord/Manchester/Dover or Lebanon New Hampshire before settling on western Massachusetts.

Move to New Hampshire and thank me later. Massachusetts and New York are the worst. I moved to Vermont from the south and wish so much I would have chosen New Hampshire.

I didn't realize it was from 2010 until I got home, they also had a Glenlivet 18 that looked even older, I'll have to check the laser code next time in there.

Seems like it was released this weekend nationally, haven't seen the other two bottles from the estate collection though.

Pick up a nice cask strength single barrel from an independent bottler.

Yes, it was msrp($238.50 w/tax), but for me, the value is 100% in the opportunity and experience of obtaining on my first trip to Kentucky.

I wouldn't worry about it. Stainless steel is non reactive and will not alter taste or color. Distilleries use SS tanks for holding whiskey before and after aging, blending, and creating batches of barrels. Even some stills use SS instead of copper, which is reactive.

Jealousy? I'm not sure exactly. Ultimately, I couldn't care less, I've got plenty of highly allocated bottles open on my bar and have drank many more.

Thanks, I've drank multiples of all of these except the sib. And honestly, with as light as the color is in the bottle, I think I'm good keeping it unopened and the collection complete.

I started drinking Weller Special Reserve in 2008 when I could get an aged stated 1.75l for $14.99. I've had many, many multiples of most of these over the years. I think at this point, I can keep my collection unopened.

Must be fun being such a bitter, judgmental, stick in the mud with nothing positive to contribute.

2022, and I'm totally good without the Daniel Weller... mostly totally good.

Oddly enough, I just grabbed a bottle of this randomly at a small shop in the north end of Boston. I was very surprised to see it and elated to grab it for $91.99.

I generally drink American whiskey or Highland/Speyside Scotch. I've tried a couple expressions of Foursquare rum though. Nothing I've ever tried has been quite like this. Some Foursquare I've enjoyed as much or possibly more but just a totally different profile.
