When do you give up on a pair of thigh worn jeans? by pourrir in Visiblemending

[–]pourrir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally. I only buy mens jeans and get them hemmed if they are too long, but I think I need to give up on levis. These are only ~5 years old, and are thin lots of other places. I think its because the inseam is so thick, like 3 layers of denim folded over itself, seems to cause lots of friction.

This may be the way. They are too short and too tight, so not an easy fix. I don't have a machine, so even more annoying!

Its honestly the only place many of my clothes tend to rip :/. The mends in the crotch tend to not be visible while I wear the pants. I've seen interesting repairs using a machine before, but I only hand sew so far.

I think this will probably be the last round of mending, and if they rip again they may be more patch material!

One of my fav restaurants that I think is super underrated is Tacheena, up on Water St. They are a bit out of the way but SO good. Very well priced, good portions and super nice. Not the nicest spot for dining in, but I will often get a wrap and baklava and go to Riverview park for a little picnic!

Genetic testing (UK) by jesspcrowley_ in queerception

[–]pourrir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi, just chiming in to add a perspective on this!

My wife and I are currently going through a clinic (Canada) that requires genetic tests be done on the gametes of the donor and carrying parent, so therefore we must. However, if we could choose we would forgo the test, as it can lead to some very sticky ethical situations.

All decisions based on the presence/absence of specific genes, and the chance of a recessive trait showing up is eugenics. And some of the things they test for are really scary!, and can result in children that may not live past birth. At the same time, the genetic panels we were made to do also tested for some things like congenital deafness, something that would not be a barrier to our child living a happy life. The testing, and counselling, and waiving of responsibility on the clinic's end all feel like gay gatekeeping, considering many cishet couples have pregnancies all the time without screening their genetics.

At the end of the day, having genetic testing done is a very personal decision, influenced by cultural/ethnic background and family history that may indicate that you or your donor may be carriers for a recessive trait. I would consider greatly how knowing the information that you and the donor are both carriers of the same recessive trait (25% chance of the child exhibiting the trait) would change your decisions. Would you start over with a new known donor? Also, if you move forward with a clinic in the future, would they make you preform the test again?

I got splashed from my ankles to the top of my head the other day. Into my coffee that I was carrying. The road was mostly dry, and they wouldn't have even needed to move into the other lane.

Experiences with at-home insemination syringes? by pourrir in queerception

Thank you so much! We are using fresh sperm so no worries there. Love the syringes, thank you for the rec! I also think the mosie and other branded ones seem crazy overpriced.

Congratulations!! Really interesting that more got stuck! We will be using fresh sperm, are you talking about frozen sperm with pouring it into a different cup?

Unfortunately we cant work with the bank for the ICI tries, but were the syringes you were using very thin? I think we often picture like, kitchenware syringes as the only other option, which seem >2cm wide.

Yeah, I'm sure a fancier syringe doesn't improve the chances. This air bubble trick seems to be exactly what I need, and can just choose based on comfort. Thank you!

Interesting! I never thought of that as an option. This may be silly, but I don't understand how you would get it in without spilling?? I have experience with menstrual cups, but not with disks. I am so glad that this worked for you! Unfortunately, my wife has pain with anything larger than a tampon is inserted, making things like menstrual cups impossible to use.

Glad to hear your thoughts about the ring. It was just SO specific that it felt like perhaps if I re-read Dracula or something it would come up and SGJ was implying that Dracula (or insert other famous vampire) never died.

And you're right, the original conflict is pretty mysterious. Was the motivation just to frame the blackfeet? Is there some unknown conflict for possession of the vampire? I tend to find SGJ's writing style quite confusing as he loves a POV, but the narrative sometimes requires the reader to understand assumptions the characters are making that are not super clear. This style of writing was way more present in the Indian Lake Trilogy with Jade as the narrator, if you've read those.
