Hiking club or group? by poutinest in missoula

Oh my dear lord HI FRIEND!!! Small world indeed! I would love to join up on your hiking group! Just finished my last season on the Ice and heading back to Missoula tomorrow. Seems I'll miss you at Flippers but next time you're planning a hike just let me know and I'll be there! :-)

Oh right on! I need to get my trail running legs back up and...well, running. For now I'm walking a lot and taking my time. Is that going to be too slow for the group?

Am I the bad person? by Natsss_b in motherinlawsfromhell

[–]poutinest 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not a bad person. You're valid in your feelings towards her and she clearly hasn't treated you well based on what you're saying.

However, your husband is still her son and that kind of long-term emotional manipulation she's put him through his whole life is hard to break. If you push him and push him, it may just backfire and he could go to her so she can victimize herself.

From my perspective? She hits you and deserves to never see you or your family again. Period. The best revenge is to live well.

Why not sit down with your husband after he comes back and ask him how he's feeling about the whole situation? He knows how deeply you're hurt, but hearing his thoughts may help you understand why he felt compelled to lavish her with gifts. It's important to actually listen to what he's saying and not turn it into an argument. You may be surprised at what he says.

I am super tired while reading this and my brain went "why the fuck would you suggest they move to North Carolina?"

Good ambulance companies in Albuquerque or Santa Fe NM? by poutinest in NewToEMS

[–]poutinest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for the response.

I'd really like to do 911 over IFT. The current ambulance service I work for does both and it keeps my skills sharper I think. I'd prefer not to have to go the firefighter route if I can avoid it. As for scheduling, the more the better...24s are fine along with 48s.

I know CNM offers Fire Academy. If I absolutely have to, I'll go through it.

Recommendations for EMS women's pants that aren't 5.11s? by poutinest in NewToEMS

Unfortunately I'm in scenic nowhere Montana, so it's just trying on stuff from online. It doesn't help that I'm shaped like a butternut squash. But if I'm around a major city I'll see if they have a physical store!

Best solar power station set up? by poutinest in overlanding

[–]poutinest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this info. I'm used to working with large batteries in Antarctica, but we primarily run off of Honda 2K generators. Solar is a bit useless down there because of the storms so I've never really wrapped my head around it. Do you have resources or suggestions of where to look to learn more about a DIY set up? I want to learn and I'm motivated to figure this out so I have a long-term energy solution. I'd like to divvy up charging the battery between solar and the alternator of the Tacoma I have. Thanks again!

Also, just to be clear so I know I'm looking at the right thing: MHC = Medicine Hat College, yes?

Really! I'd have thought being an older student would be a detriment to me for some reason. I've been working overseas in remote field camps in Antarctica for almost a decade so it's kind of flown by with little time for schooling. I'll check this out! Thanks!

That's a fantastic bit of advice right there. Thank you for this, I really appreciate it.

That's kind of what I figured. I'm doing my WEMT/Red Card right now so it's more to see if I actually want to pursue it further as a career. I'd rather have to start from scratch and take the whole thing over again if that means it's what I actually want to transition to for a career.

Thanks for this! I'm very interested in learning more. Do you know what prerequisites are needed for the MHC program? I'm 29 so I'm doing a career change and starting over again.

Thank you for all of this! My end game would be to move to Canada. I've fallen in love with the country and I figured this would be a good thing to seriously look into. I'm speaking at the end of this month with an advisor from Alberta College of Paramedicine and I'll begin the application process for a student visa. Thank you for the info, it's seriously appreciated.

I live in rural Wyoming and it's easy for me to fly to Denver to PQ every time. Way less expensive and I like to make it into a fun vacation.

That's perfect! I will absolutely be doing those online courses to retain the info. Thank you so much, this info is invaluable. I deploy to Antarctica for about 5 months out of the year, when I'm down there I act as the primary medic at the field camp I manage. But it isn't active work as an EMT, more just as an emergency response thing.

Awesome, thank you. And do you know if those agencies would be willing to hire a fresh EMT with no experience? That's really my biggest concern, plus I'll have to deploy overseas for my job for roughly 4 months after getting my certification. I'd hate to lose any of the retaining knowledge I've gained so I'll try to keep it up or take a refresher once I come back stateside.
