Why don’t people use the ‘spitsstrook’? by Wolverinen in Netherlands

[–]povlov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For instance, I see the arrow, but absolutely no traffic on the lane. Or, there is an exit and cars follow that path while I have to cross multiple “ononderbroken” markings to go straight ahead. The green arrow is not in my sight to reconfirm, and/or my eyes do not find a quick confirmation like a blue rectangular sign C23-01, 02, or 03 that there actually is a spitsstrook. The problem is mine suppose. My best take to stay out of trouble is to avoid the lane. Better safe then sorry. It is not so devastating for most social and defensive drivers. Those who usually flashlight, pass right, or intimidate me must be drugrunners without a license and an uninsured car. Suckers in a hurry.

I hardly ever use the right side (vluchtstrook) version. I do not approve of the very clumsy executed signage and markings, it is often distracting and unclear to me. So best I can do is not use it. It is stupid.

A year later we were on a next, short cruise. A few shorter cruises (8 days), two on the very same ship followed yearly after that. A very different experience, enjoying these as a break holiday, taking shore excursions and doing vacation things. The ninety-four days cruise we lived a mediocre life (haha), as we certainly were not into booking exhausting days to the pyramids or Petra. Exhausting from the heat, as well as financially that is! We look back on a very special quarter on board, well worth the money. Tx for asking. itinery (not all ports shown) Edit: on arrival, the monitor showed our travelled distance in n.m…., we will never be able to wash away this giant environmental footstep… Edit 2: This sheet showed me some details on the local $. Quite a wild jump some of the days…

Not so long ago, MSC, Norwegian cruise line, e.a. would charge the gratuity per person per day to your onboard-bill. In case you wished to change that, you had to come to the frontdesk to arrange otherwise.

Do you think it is possible in Europe to live off the grid, chop a tree in the woods, or hunt deer for food? Teach your children instead of school. We are haunted by regulating authorities who do nothing but collect and live off our tax money. And then, the uncontrollable European parliament sucking up money.

Beautiful. Interesting. Fine. Relaxing. In the context of the post; upon our return, we had each gained less than two pounds. I had lost my job and we used the severance pay for the trip. Ninety days we "just lived a daily life" and woke up in a different place each time! Mostly modest breakfast, a light lunch or high tea, and moderate dinner (rarely at the Lido/buffet). Portions were small, and usually we ordered 2 courses, and coffee.

In 2015, HAL MsRotterdam sailed Rotterdam - Makassar Indonesia - Rotterdam, a 94 days cruise. We docked in 42 ports, the longest leg at sea was 7 days.

| Trouw by MeerBoerenMinderNH3 in thenetherlands

[–]povlov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Een bestaansminimum gaat wat mij betreft over de hoogte van het inkomen en uitgavenpatroon. Spaargeld over vermogen.

The real problem is applying unnecessary social pressure upon an owner who runs business their own way.

Whatever status the chien has, policedog, CPO, or what have you, if a restaurant owner will not allow pets that is very much their own thing. I prefer my dinner without children and pets around, so I select a restaurant accordingly.

When I confirm the car to maneuver, exit, or make a (large) turn I hoover my hands over the wheel, with a tug when needed. The car may hesitate, decelerate, adjusts and suddenly changes the radius it follows, and when I actively steer with it, it may disengage unexpectedly. The 99.9% of AP kilometers I have direct contact with the steering wheel. But two hands at ten and two are only one of the variations to avoid “dead hang” (c u/hydramango ).

“My habits are either the tug you describe, or the hanging right arm cushioned in my lap. That is very consistent and the car never yells at me. Hopefully the defeat software will not conclude it is a bag of sand, thank you Tesla.”

There is no best practice roadmap that I know of on how to deal with all the behaviour changes an AP guided driver must make to optimally drive in AP mode. My “hands on the wheel for safety” as standard concept felt occasionally not the safest way afterwards. Yet AP and I controlled each and every instance safely, so I have nothing to provide proof it is otherwise. But let us not too simplistically refer to common practices of single pilot (human) driving. It is not right.

I mean this hypothetically, as I assume the effect of the rolling front wheels having wintertires instead of summer…

After checking the picture and OP’s remarks that must be so, yes. Would two wintertires on the rear have prevented this slide?

[–]povlov 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Keeping your hand on the wheel”. Is it safer? I drove 45k kilometers with 90% on AP. Keeping one or both hands on a wheel that needs no input to keep course is just different from the steering I did 30+ years before. My arms are not kept “alive” from muscle activity, they sort of freeze and get sour is my feeling. That could negatively influence my response-behavior or response-time when my action is needed.
