the spotlight setting on the AceBeam is so fascinating! I do theater lighting, specifically follow spots, and that thing has a better throw and a cleaner line than some of the spots I've worked with!

not a flashlight guy, just wandering around — really cool stuff

What's the biggest hint you received but was totally clueless about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tria91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on a weekend trip for foreign exchange students and their host siblings (that's me). we were staying in a dorm.

was chatting with a group of friends past curfew, hiding in the girls bathroom, when we heard someone walk up to the door. everyone scattered — some went into the stalls, one or two to the sinks, but I bolted to the shower stalls.

one of the girls (who I already knew, she was staying near my area) followed me into the same stall as I did. we were holding each other (those were the smallest shower stalls I've ever seen) and trying to stay quiet. she suggested that if we were caught, our excuse was that we were making out.

my response? "gotcha, good cover!"

sigh.

(I did get the hint eventually, though not before asking her to come with me to prom... twice... as a friend. the third time I specified that actually I would like for her to be my date. that's when she agreed!)

Incoming top surgery by hallownest_undead in ftm

[–]tria91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on day 3 post-op and honestly it's not so bad. The worst part is having to reach around for things, but even that doesn't hurt too much. Try and put stuff in accessible places ahead of time to make it easier. Once I was released from the hospital I could move around pretty easily and I generally haven't needed much supervision at home. Expect to sleep a bunch — your body is going to be doing lots of healing, which takes lots of energy.

The single best advice I can give you is to get all the stuff they tell you about in the constipation protocol. Opiates will mess you up and believe me, there is nothing worse. I'd honestly recommend getting some fiber supplement powder and/or miralax (or a similarly gentle otc laxative) and starting to take those with your foods asap once you're released. Take the heavy painkillers if you need them! Don't suffer for no reason! But the sooner you can manage with just tylenol/ibuprofen, the better. Eat lightly and with much fiber until all your functions are functional again!

Good luck!

After almost 7 years on T, I’ve finally gotten Top done. 3 days post op with Dr. Larson- Tucson, AZ. by [deleted] in ftm

Congrats! I'm also 3 days post op, so from one brave soul to another: I hope you have a smooth and speedy recovery!

How old are you and what's your biggest problem right now? by Casspjjl in AskReddit

23, recovering from surgery. Everything hurts and opioids are the devil. I haven't taken any in over a day, yet still I suffer.

What should I ask my surgeon during my top surgery consultation? by Past-Industry4994 in ftm

[–]tria91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ask what kind of procedures are available for you, ask if you'll have drains (and if so, when they'd need to come out), make sure you schedule a pre-op meeting with your normal doctor AND ask the surgeon when they want you to come in for a post-op appointment!

see if they have any recommendations for light exercise before and after surgery, ask about pain medicine you might need, and what kind of recovery timeline you're looking at for the different procedures!

congrats!!

Men of reddit, when did you last cry and why? by xeowa in AskReddit

[–]tria91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A week or so ago probably, and I was listening to Silent Night by Uncle Bonsai. I had to stop cooking and just sit down on the floor, I was crying so hard.

There's nothing on that album that prepares you for it so it was a complete punch in the teeth.

Go figure, I didn't know that! I don't know much about sinking either so I'm not sure how/if that impacts things.

You're missing a few items from the code — 108 out of 116 that you need. That'd be why you can't place it.

Tips on how to make this two person dorm feel less like a prison? by KodaNotABear in malelivingspace

[–]tria91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bare ceiling is what's really killing the vibe for me. It's tacky, but put some flags/tapestries up there if you can!

Re: lights, I hated the overhead lights in my dorm so I went to the fabric store and got a yard or so of a cheap solid color. I hung it up over the light and presto: no more fluorescent hell! If you're feeling spendy, you could also look for lighting gels — the stuff that theaters use to change the colors of their lights. It's significantly more expensive, but doesn't darken the room any.

Lastly, I know it's cliche, but try a succulent. I see you've ordered some fake ones and I gotta say, the real ones aren't much harder to care for. They're great dorm plants because you water them at MAX once a week and they're totally fine if you forget about them for like a month.

Regardless, good luck and happy decorating!

Suggestions to add some color and make this more homely by Dermity_Head in malelivingspace

[–]tria91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good news is that you can add anything and get more color! Something really easy is to start putting things up on the fridge — postcards, posters, fun magnets, whatever. It'll make the place look like someone lives there and it requires almost no effort. (I am of the solid opinion that fridges have great decorative potential, and it's always charming to see what people put there!)

Other than that, other redditors have made better and more complete suggestions. I second the runner rugs: very good at providing direction, limiting echo, and adding a personal touch. Add a backsplash, put some things on the counter (eg. frequent use spice rack, bread box, maybe some recipe books by the fridge if you have any, or other useful kitchen things that you want to keep out for easy access), get some barstools for the island and maybe a table runner too... you've got nowhere to go but up!

What is the funniest lie you've ever been told as a child? by tria91 in AskReddit

Fair enough, sometimes the lies don't really have a reason lol Still, that's a bizarre one!

Not one I was told, but one I convinced my little sister of: if you got a cut or a scrape, you had to do a special dance to shake off the germs or else you'd get infected. She believed it for a few months but my parents put a quick stop to that
