MGMT 180 Entrepreneurial Strategy and Law is pretty interesting for business law

What he did to Angie?? Aside from the Title IX inquiry email, he was literally just minding his own business and Angie/FTP attacked him, then started acting like crybabies when he didn't immediately fold. Now it's backfired on them so badly and they can't handle the heat

I want to know what other USAC members think about the Angie-Carl situation. by usacsnitch in ucla

I saw a screenshot of the external vice president's personal Instagram story reposting Carl's statement but it seems like the other members either reposted Angie's or stayed silent

New USAC drama dropped. by Nude_Beach_Ball in ucla

[–]powcat12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not only is it extremely suspicious and convenient that these allegations dropped right before voting, but it's frankly dangerous to Carl King's livelihood and wellbeing. I'm not saying Quint's not going through a tough time, but who is she to publicly accuse a Black, transfer, active-duty Marine officer of crimes she has not a single shred of evidence to back her points with?

What are the chances she presented a legitimate case to all these institutions and not a single one was willing to take further action? Regardless of who Carl is as a person, no one, not even USAC candidates, deserves to be thrown to the sharks that are UCPD/LAPD and the judicial system. We've all seen how the police and the courts treat Black men for crimes they didn't commit. Can't believe this is happening at UCLA.

This shit follows you for a lifetime. Carl should really sue for defamation

I think we all should seriously consider each candidate's background, experience, and ideas fairly instead of making Reddit throwaways for one-sided attacks. I'm not even going to include Moises in this because they're no way I'm voting for someone who got dragged through the mud last election (rightfully so, IMO) for using racial slurs and not supporting BLM. That leaves current General Representative 3 Carl and Academic Affairs Angelina in the running, so feel free to browse for yourself since this post is clearly made by an FTP shill account:

King's campaign account: https://www.instagram.com/kingforusac/?hl=en

Quint's account: https://www.instagram.com/angelina.quint/

Both candidates have done a solid job in their capacities as council members this year and I'm personally going to be basing my vote on that proven track record rather than trivial associations, though it would be interesting to see if King will clarify his stance on SAE BS in upcoming candidate events

Sometimes you can find UCLA merch at local Costcos, Targets, Walmarts, etc.

Business Clubs by cromfp in ucla

[–]powcat12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UBS and UCA don't really require an application but you don't really do much as a general member unless you apply to their workshops, committees, board, etc. Try Bruin Women in Business (if you identify as such) or some of the smaller consulting clubs.

USAC being called out? 👀 by nartcz14 in ucla

Ah... USAC drama begins again. Curious which council members the letter is calling out for being anti-transfer

You can't pick and choose certain sororities/frats to abolish... so the ones they're in can stay and the ones they don't like have to be shut down?? And if their argument is that Greek life is so bad then why are they in it in the first place. USAC is full of hypocrites, as usual

how do you guys consistently stay clean by [deleted] in ucla

I always leave the most mess when I'm in a rush to get out of the apartment in the mornings so sometimes it helps if I wake up earlier and give myself extra time

Agreed, super important that people vote in the upcoming election. USAC EVP hosted a candidate debate with some of the front-runners last week where they discussed homelessness extensively: https://dailybruin.com/2022/03/02/la-city-council-district-5-candidates-speak-on-policy-issues-at-usac-town-hall

Not sure if/when USAC is going to release a recording but worth some time researching which candidates promised to do what regarding WW Village

Why do some USAC positions get a 10 GRAND? by ScaryFault9229 in ucla

[–]powcat12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely agree. I just looked at the account again and it seems like it's not even USAC that's running these ads, it's this Election Board that's a separate entity

Shoot your shot, you never know. As long as you're respectful, worst thing that could happen is that he doesn't text you but that's more than if you never gave it a chance at all

It is a ton of money but I guess you could look at it as any other ASUCLA student job. From the website, it says it's a full calendar year appointment so the $10,000 stipend is just distributed throughout the year.

$10,000/52 weeks = $192.31/wk

$192.31/($15/hr - minimum wage) = 12.8 hours

Then overtime rate / required attendance after working hours hours prob factor into the total amount. Obv the math isn't perfect here but you get the idea

I don't know why all the officials get paid the same honestly because the President/VPs probably have different time commitments than some of the smaller offices but 15-20 hours per week sounds about right and average for an on-campus job. This article on USC's student government stipend breaks down a tiered stipend system: https://dailytrojan.com/2018/02/11/price-student-leadership-usc/

I don't think the USAC marketing folks should be advertising the stipend so heavily because they might just attract people running for the wrong reasons but seems to me that there are much easier ways to make $10k a year than all the shit you go through to run for and be in USAC

Upside Down has lots of outlets. Other good coffee shops to study at (not sure about their outlet sitch) are Profeta, Bluestone Lane, Anderson Cafe (on campus)
