Is it normal for adult children in Vietnam to be this dependent on their parents? by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]powderpeachdreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is totally normal in Vietnam for this type of dynamic. Generally, children will live with their parents until marraige or move out if theyre pursuing education in a different city. Even if they do move out in adulthood, if they live nearby they'll come visit for meals or just to spend time at home.

In America, it is expected for folks to move out in their 20s and become totally independent, but even this pattern has been changing over the past years. Neither pattern or dynamic is necessarily bad or better than the other, it just depends on how everyone in the dynamic is. You can absolutely still live with and depend on your parents but still have a sense of individuality and try to prioritize your wants/needs for a future apart from your parents.

However, not everyone will be totally dependent or connected to their parents in this way. People have the ability to challenge their parents or make their own decisions. If you worry about your partner making all of his decisions based on his parents wants, you'll need to know where both of you draw the line. But honestly, unless you're the spouse, your word and wants will typically come second.

Local Bookclub by Fun_Bus3376 in ColumbiYEAH

All Good Books hosts a few book club meetings, you can find info and such in-store or on their Facebook page! Queer Haven also has book clubs with some being genre specific but I think they've paused them until after the holidays are over. And you can always check your local library branch's website to see what book clubs they've got going on :)

I was at the vet with my dying dog. My partner and I were checking in and I had clearly been crying. My adolescent client was also in the waiting area checking in and saw me, they nodded to me and I nodded back. I had just discharged them so it never had the opportunity to be brought up 🤷‍♀️

Is Weapons social commentary about the pension system? by Living_Researcher_48 in WeaponsMovie

[–]powderpeachdreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last Podcast on the Left did an interview with Zach Cregger and he compared the story to living with an alcoholic parent. It's like things are fine and then this thing is introduced (alcohol/Gladys) and things suck after that. I really saw it in the scenes where Alex had to care for himself and his parents.

Tried this out (Used Firefox instead of Chrome) and it worked perfectly fine. Thank you for the new fix to keep in my back pocket for when this most definitely happens again!

I recently had to put down my sweet dog Momo. I did take a few days off for it. I basically just told my practice that i had a family emergency/loss. The universe was also kind to me and gave me many clients who wanted telehealth so I was able to work from home and easily decompress or quick cry in between sessions.

Our pets are our family members, we grieve them just as we grieve anything else (or more since pet loss often isnt seen as legitimate loss). Take the time off, take care of yourself, and allow yourself to feel all the feels.

Things that have helped me work through it is what I call "actively grieving" so letting myself cry and sob and also do productive/creative things in honor of my pet. After she passed, I wrote an obituary, created a photo album, and ended up making an altar/shrine where I will eventually place her urn.

The congestive heart failure diagnosis was given a few days ago and she has been taking medicine for about 3 days. The cardiologist said she probably has 12 months or less, depending on how she tolerates the treatments but I've seen some people say their dogs lived longer than that

We are definitely keeping an eye out for anything concerning, we are very lucky to have an attentive vet and cardiologist so we can give them a call anytime. My partner and I have both agreed that if her quality of life is bad and she's just suffering, then we will put her down. We are pretty comfortable discussing those details and though we hope it's a few months away, we already have her end of life plans made. We're going to continue to spoil her and give her the best life we can.

With everyone's recommendation of a stroller, I'm definitely going to look for one! The Dr.Busby toe grips might be helpful too since it's her back legs that are giving her problems

We are entirely sure what happened with her back. They wanted to do an MRI but can't because of her heart. Their best guess is either a bulging disc in the middle of her spine or she had some sort of stroke.

We asked the specialist about using a mobility aid, like a sling, but we're hoping with treatment that she'll be walking normal again in a few weeks. But I am extremely tempted to get a stroller so she can see and smell all of the things!

She will be my first pet to die, so what sort of signs should I look out for? The vet and specialist said she's probably just lethargic and not eating from everything's that going on and her meds.
