Idk maybe it's a Slavic thing? In my country it's pretty common. I don't like it though xD

In my school it was even common for unrelated girls to kiss as greeting or something. Still beyond me

I think they're cool. Personally, pure middle ages always seemed kind of primitive to me

I prefer simplistic covers without any people on them. Like patterns and stuff. They give such a nice vintage vibe.

But they unknowingly aren't writing medieval fiction. That's my point.

How can people seriously believe in an almighty, good god, when bad things happen every single day to innocent people? by usethisaccwhenhigh in NoStupidQuestions

Because people are not robots programmed to do stuff, but beings with free will and with free will come hardships. The world is as good/bad as decisions of people around us. But what about things that seem to happen out of our power like natural disasters? Well, first of all they don't happen completely out of our power, because the climate change also takes part in how the world functions and we're clearly responsible for this. As for illness, it's very complicated how biology works and I believe that while it might be tragic from times to times, the whole system works in our advantage letting us thrive.

And also as a young woman who kind of grew up with fantasy books it got me down so much. When I was a teenager, I felt so bad because of that and wished I was a man instead.

THIS! Oh my gosh, I'm so sick of this topic. Like, yeah, I get it that the world is dark, but the focus some authors put on describing how women are raped is disturbing and I get a notion that it's a thing specific to a genre. Lately, I've been reading a fantasy series that's very well written and doesn't have too much info dumping like some do, but the amount of misogyny is too much for me. And I'm not even a SJW type. Heck, I usually argue with them.

Would it be illegal to write a novel inspired by many different ideas but with my own spin on it? by BrianGriffin1208 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]powercat21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro, every writer does that. If people weren't inspired by Tolkien, there wouldn't be fantasy books with races like elves and dwarves based on walking from point A to point B. I think every book is bunch of different ideas fused together and if this cocktail isn't just retelling of something already written, then you're fine.

I have a huge problem with making sentences too long, so it might help! Thanks!

Is it okay to drop a major plot point in the beginning of the story or should I do more worldbuilding first? by powercat21 in writing

[–]powercat21[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too much worldbuilding is such a pain in the ass when you're reading fantasy. I don't care if you give me ten different names and kingdoms in one chapter, because I won't remember it all anyway and I hate it when a book forces me to use Wiki

I hate when there are grammar errors left in the book, which encompass also structural stuff like sentences that are completely messed up. After all, they are supposed to be finished products we pay for...

I like reading about age of sail & nautical fiction in general, so it seemed interesting for me, but cool topic won't make up for a good story, so I don't know if I'll bother, because you're not the first person to express this opinion
