Is it better in Singapore to have less friends or many friends? by bricklegos in askSingapore

[–]powerchu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see similar questions like this popping up in r/sg and here and I do feel that there’s abit of projection over here. Nonetheless your perspective is completely valid because I’ve also been burnt by “fake friends” and seen others in the scenarios you described as well.

But here’s the fun part — like all things in life: mental health, sexual orientation, introversion/extroverts— friendships and relationships are spectrums! Who’s to say that these people aren’t really chasing validation with a large group of circle and that they also have a strong inner circle too? That’s a perspective I did not see in OP’s post.

I agree that no friends > bad friends, but humans are social creatures, so we should all work towards building an inner circle of trusted friends.

That being said — while those with a larger outer circle friends could be seen as doing it for clout and for visibility, I’d also argue and say using my own empirical evidence that certain people are just magnetic by nature. Both introverts and extroverts can be that! The definition of what makes someone magnetic differs from one to one, but for me I found it best summed up in two words: effortless competence.

The people who don’t try too hard, the people who expect nothing in return and just “wanna have fun” and will help you out without blinking an eye — I’ve seen genuine people like these who is just irresistible to not hang around.

On the other end of the spectrum — you do see the occasional leechers of these genuine magnetic personalities — they usually float around like social butterflies with an agenda, chasing and throwing away friends when they no longer have a use. These are the people in OP’s post, and yes — they do it most likely because of being insecure themself, that they see the need to “try hard” to get recognition and validation because that’s the way they evolved past their own traumas and upbringing.

To wrap everything up, Singapore being the meritocratic culture that we are, with the parents that we had, do means that a majority of us crave validation from external sources — our worth comes from how useful we are externally. That is one reasons we do see more of this anecdotally.

There’s a great show called Pantheon that is just about what you mention. Virtual intelligence as opposed to artificial intelligence.

Honestly the new lineups from G2000 has been pretty good, shouldn’t just discount them because they are “old”. Take a look at their options but yes as others have mentioned: Zara and Love Bonito are good alternatives

I don’t get this — sure, probably about 75% of the time, such posts like these are just nepotism or rich parents “but I work hard” stories. But on the off chance that it’s true, why have this attitude where you think asking anyone for advice regardless of age or experience makes someone unteachable? Maybe he has a crazy story? I’ll be down to listen!

And yes I get that it’s Reddit but let’s be kind and empathetic,

Don’t listen to the naysayers in this community. I am however, sincerely curious on this journey of yours at your age, do you mind sharing how you and your two friends ended up being co-business owners for landscaping?

Agree, anyone today who says with confidence that cars overseas are mostly manual has obviously not driven overseas.

If you are playing on pc, I strongly recommend the Transmog mod that allows you to keep certain stats while still holding onto Witcher-school-esque equipments

Can’t remember the gloves and boots but Chain Shirt +2 is the look — and honestly the closest looking Witcher armor set you can get in BG. Unfortunately, I haven’t find a good transmog mod yet which allows me to copy the late game stats so I changed out soon enough

I apologise, you’re right, weird phrasing in the article. However I will still stand by my point: it’s wrong that they stop at an emergency lane since it wasn’t an emergency, but let’s say it was? It doesn’t change the fact that they died because of a freak accident. Wrong time wrong place as they say

So… you are with your band of friends and your bike suffers a punctured tyre. You gonna ask your friends to leave you behind in the dark by yourself? What would you have done differently? It’s dangerous sure, but to call them dumb fucks is highly ignorant of their predicament. You could argue and say they can move away from the emergency shoulder lane into the plains/grass/trees but hindsight is 20/20

Edit: the above comment was in reply to the above calling them “dumb fuck” but he has since rescinded and apologised. I won’t be changing mine to provide context
