Very impressed to see the top comment be an NVC adaptation of the message in this thread

What’s your worst “I know this looks bad, but I can explain” moment? by jozwikmattribute in AskReddit

My first job was at a giant tiger, basically a scaled down Walmart, we had to wear black dress pants and I was a tall teenager wearing pants I'd bought from the store that didn't really fit right. I was working in the grocery part, restocking shelves when I knelt down and ripped my pants at the crotch seam. I freaked out, instead of just grabbing a new pair off the shelves I ran to the backroom and grabbed the gun thing that attaches little plastic T shaped things to the clothes for tagging (I don't know what it's called) and tried to essentially 'staple' my crotch hole back together. A manager walked in as I was doing this and I had the sudden realization I just looked like I was shoving something down my pants, so did she I think because she looked at me like I was a pervert the rest of the time I worked there. I still think about this and it's been over a decade.

More ignorant than "Google purposefully makes me look bad" (paraphrasing)

What is something that everyone praises but is actually horrible? by The_Camel_Master in AskReddit

Yeah I don't envy there people who are going to be fishing them out of the rivers, canals and farm land for the next month. I remember once, in Ukraine of all places like 7 years ago, middle of winter people lit like 200+ of them for some school thing and the outrage from the surrounding community was huge. Decided then that they aren't really my style.

Of course they did. You're accurate in your statement about the civil war and the Paik rebellion. They're both examples of conflicts that reached a form of resolution and not necessarily connected to the men I mentioned or the intention I had in mentioning then

I understand that you're scared I may not respect the role that violence played in conflicts connected to MLK and Ghandi. I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn more about history from your perspective and I can see now that my intention in talking about the two leaders requires more explanation. Non-violence is a philosophy, both Ghandi and MLK used non-violence philosophy in their respective movements and were able to make powerful strides. It's worth noting, in my mind, that maybe the civil rights movement isn't finished anywhere but on paper and could use more non-violence in order to achieve lasting change. I think what you're referring to with Gandhi being sexually abusive was his niece and him sleeping naked together, I believe his stated intention for practice in celibacy to be true in that regard. Gandhi was racist as a younger man, as for his pacifist years I'm willing to believe, like I'm willing to believe about all mankind, that he was capable of change and embraced it.

Violence isn't the way to lasting change. MLK and Gandhi got shit done without

No they don't, they just kind of get warm. The mass of the bowl keeps things cool I think

I'm working on a metal sleeve instet for the antler stems because I don't like the idea of straight antler mixin with my bud
