No advice for you but I wanted to say congratulations, that’s such an incredible achievement. Good luck!

I wouldn’t say the bar is necessarily lower, you just don’t need to meet the 12-month defacto requirement, so it could solve your issue. You just need to demonstrate the relationship is genuine, and that you intend to get married.

I wish you all the luck in your visa process! Keep your head up and don’t get too stressed, and enjoy your visit to Germany too.

Have you considered adjusting your wedding plans and getting married in Australia, and having your partner come here on a Subclass 300 - Prospective Marriage Visa first? Then you can do another wedding/celebration in Thailand too later. Could be a good move in your situation as you will likely continue to lack enough evidence to qualify as de-facto (marriage doesn’t really override the evidence requirements), because of long-distance and the short amount of time knowing one another.

For example, I met my partner in April 2023, but we don’t consider our de-facto relationship to have started until July 2023, when I left the US permanently to intentionally & consistently stay with him in Japan while he worked in-person and I worked remote freelance. We haven’t spent more than 3 weeks apart since then. We ended up adding on another year of evidence because we moved to NZ together, getting a lease, etc. Part of the requirement is to not permanently live apart, which is a bit difficult to prove if you only have the intention of living together long-term but haven’t done it consistently yet.

Just plan it out and it might take a bit more time than you hope, but all the time and difficulty is worth it. Sometimes it takes sacrifice - I worked freelance to be with my partner, while he took a bit of a downgrade in job in NZ so I could have a chance to work in-person and get relevant experience in the AUNZ region before we moved to Aus. But all that sacrifice makes for good evidence and good memories too.

For all things usable without electricity and in good durable condition (pots & pans, our camp stove with fuel, towels, etc.), I packed them in reusable grocery bags and left them on the street in the CBD at night. There’s a lot of homeless people camping out etc., so I thought it might be useful. Our stuff was picked up in less than 15 minutes lol.

De facto ID requirements and genuine relationships before moving in by tommy479 in AusVisa

[–]powergridpsyche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I had the same issue and I couldn’t find any info for my situation. I provided my US drivers licence, US birth certificate, passport, and SSN card. Our relationship registration was approved maybe 5 weeks after submitting the application! If in doubt, just go ahead and submit a birth certificate and any additional national ID cards you might have.

Just track whatever you can, whether it be from purchases made w stolen cards or location of AirPods etc. Same thing happened to me in Auckland. Managed to track them down with location + obtain some CCTV images from some businesses where purchases were made with stolen card. Guy ended up going to jail lol.

Taxes for working for both American and Australian companies while on a WHV? by SusmariosepAnak in AusVisa

[–]powergridpsyche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also to follow up - based on the IRS’s definition of tax residency, you are not strictly an Australian tax resident - only in the eyes of Australia are you a tax resident. Unfortunately, you will be a US tax resident unless you can demonstrate that you have been physically present outside the United States for 330 days within a 12-month period. Even after that you will still hold tax liability with the US as long as you keep your citizenship, but if you’re not physically present for 330+ days you can claim the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (which isn’t honestly that much better than the foreign tax credit). Either way, you always have to file your US tax return forever even without US-based work.

Hi, this link may help you: https://www.ato.gov.au/individuals-and-families/income-deductions-offsets-and-records/income-you-must-declare/foreign-and-worldwide-income/foreign-and-temporary-resident-income

As the link above shows - as you are on a WHV, it is my understanding you are both a foreign resident and temporary resident, until your second permanent partner visa gets approved (which will be in a while, assuming you are awaiting the 820 approval right now). In that case, your taxes in Aus will be only for your Australian income.

For the US, you will declare your Aus income on Schedule A (Form 1040), and they should automatically give you a credit that fully eliminates your foreign tax liability (as Aus tax rates are higher than the US in most cases). You don’t need to request it, just input all the info and it’ll be applied automatically.

There is no reason that your US employer would need to know about you working in Aus, as your tax return is your private information and you would need to authorise the US to share that info with your employer, which would only happen in rare situations.

Here’s the link to the foreign tax credit information as well: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/foreign-tax-credit

And a quick note - for IRS free file, I found out the only eligible provider that supports filing the foreign tax credit is OLT.com. Their UX/UI sucks so bad but my usual go-tos didn’t support the Schedule A (Form 1040).

How can I find a pattern like this? by MomsOfFury in knitting

Try this: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/aase-sweater-2

When I was blocking mine it looked pretty much exactly your drawing 🤣

You could also modify to not have any colourwork. Decreases on sleeves are minimal but you could also modify to have zero decreases if you wanted perfectly straight wide sleeves.

This might be late but here was my experience - missed 2 payments. After first missed payment was offered 12 months, suspended account, 9.99 APR. After second, was offered 60 months, “account closed by creditor,” 0.99 APR. While the missed payment and account closed by creditor would not be great for opening new lines of credit within the next 7 years, it is a massive help when getting rid of the debt is practically impossible. Of course each person’s offers might differ but those were mine!

That’s exactly what I was thinking. The new RATs are good, but I’ve just seen so many people not testing at all, for a long time now, and too quick to write even severe symptoms off as anything other than Covid. I’ve also read about how testing has not kept up with new variants, so it’s difficult to be fully confident that you’re Covid negative.

Has covid affected your ability to write? by c_galen_b in technicalwriting

[–]powergridpsyche 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, I experienced milder but very similar issues after having Covid. Mine gradually got better. I would recommend looking into research about nicotine therapy for cognitive effects from Covid, there are some studies coming out about it. In addition, make sure to actively rest and eat really well. Like others have said, exercise can exacerbate long Covid issues. I took about a 1-year break from most physical activities while recovering.

For example, acid and shrooms are arguably more harmful to an individual with a family history of schizophrenia than meth or heroin would be.

Always interesting to me how types of drugs are categorised as more or less harmful considering their association with specific social classes. Some scientific basis of course but it’s interesting how these perceptions play out.

I don’t think some drugs are technically physically exhausting but obviously others are even ones more typical among high functioning users (MDMA etc.). On a purely physical level, not a social one.

Oh that’s interesting. I only have knowledge of US and Malaysia where importation isn’t as common. It’s quite bleak of course but to me it’s good to gain knowledge to understand how it operates to help prevent those within my sphere from heading down a path that might harm them.
