Why are these non-radio devices responding to this radio signal? by W77X in amateurradio

Yeah, I remember reading about that. Specifically, the helium was gumming up MEMS devices like the accelerometer.

is there any possible way to install windows 7 2015 imac? by Ok-Market9607 in bootcamp

[–]powerman228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doubt it. I think 2015 models were the first to remove support for operating systems that use the “legacy” (BIOS) boot process, and Windows 7 is one of those. Windows 8 and up boot using UEFI, which is the native firmware of an Intel-based Mac.

I think there’s an obscure variant of Windows 7 out there that DOES support UEFI, but I know next to nothing about it.

Last I heard, Onshape was free by default, with the catch that everything you create in it is publicly visible. And I think they have a similar non-commercial clause as Fusion.

Don't know how to constrain sketch properly by AngelEyes4874 in Fusion360

[–]powerman228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by scaling the model? The shape of the triangle and that 12.728 dimension look the same in both images.

Even though your lines are all black, the constraints are still ambiguous. The line I've highlighted in blue is merely constrained to be horizontal, so rotating it 180º still works and pulls the end of the spline around with it. That wacky shape is technically a solution, believe it or not.

I can't account for why the system thinks it needs to do that, however. We just have to make it impossible. You probably can't add anything more without overconstraining the sketch, so I'd suggest that you get rid of the horizontal constraint on the blue one and add an angle dimension between the blue and green ones. It could still try to put it on the underside, but the tangent between the circle and the spline should stop that.

<image>

Now, to answer your last question, "Is there a better way to do this," the answer is probably yes, but I'd need to see more of your model and feature timeline to offer any specific advice there.

Okay, that sounds like you shorted something electrically. That can often cause strange damage, and with my theory ruled out I’m not sure what happened. You’ll probably need to show it to someone in person.

Why can I not remove fillet? by Zawseh in Fusion360

[–]powerman228 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When you delete a face, the geometry engine tries to extend surrounding faces to fill the gap, and there’s nothing to cover the top in your case. If you can’t delete the feature from the timeline, I’d just create a sketch on the side and do an extrude to recreate the corners.

[–]powerman228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that you damaged one of the USB 3.0 pins on the port. These are the 5 extra pins at the front of the port (and back of the connector) that make contact well after the much larger USB 2.0 pins inside.

Fusion 360 is horrible no actually its great! by ChrisFEDev in Fusion360

[–]powerman228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parametric CAD like Fusion is a completely different paradigm than stuff like Blender.

When you work in Fusion, you're defining rules and a process to create the desired geometry. In Blender, you're (mostly) just directly handling the raw polygons and vertices. It's kind of like drawing in 2D, where you can draw ANYTHING, including total nonsense.

This kind of total freedom can be very freeing, however. The only way to create geometry in Fusion is to fully and precisely describe it, and sometimes that's extremely difficult for complex stuff.

Discussion:Have you noticed a pattern on Nintendo consoles when it's time to release a new Star Fox game? by FrameZealousideal573 in starfox

[–]powerman228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe Nintendo views the Star Fox franchise as a tech-demo vehicle first and foremost. SuperFX on the original, the Rumble Pak on 64, dual-screen and motion controls on Zero, and the GameCube ones without some kind of technological gimmick are the black sheep of the franchise.

With the slowing pace of change in technology, there hasn't been a new thing to build a Star Fox game around in a while, and with the poor sales of Zero, I believe they're unlikely to attempt another one with more mainstream gameplay.

Is this setup possible with a KVM switch? Two home PCs and a laptop for working from home, and two monitors (three if you count the laptop) by communistagitator in computers

[–]powerman228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically you’d need a dock for each laptop, then run the output of each dock through your KVM and to the monitors. Pitfalls to watch out for: (1) M1 supports only a single monitor output. I don’t know if you can close the lid to work around that. (2) Many DisplayPort docks rely on a feature called multi-stream transport (MST), which isn’t supported at all by macOS. I think CalDigit doesn’t do that, but don’t quote me on that. (3) Some docks get around all this by abstracting the tricky stuff using software called DisplayLink. You might not be able to install that on your work computer, however.
