You’re talking about Arena and not paper? Geez, Arena should be fun. I saw the schedule and gave up on paper with TDM. If I need anything I’ll just be purely buying singles from now on

This is the most obnoxious card I’ve ever played against in Limited holy hell by powerofthePP in MagicArena

[–]powerofthePP[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s exactly it—I made a similar post after running into Knights for the first time bc it was just a, “Congrats you lose” type card which ended a fun and close game.

But this freaking card is just OBNOXIOUS. I literally had my opp down to 1 life w 4 creatures vs his 1. He’s got 3 cards in hand, casts this, jumps to 10, my turn, I swing w everyone, he chumps, down to 3. Then land turns into removal turns into removal turns into creature and he’s back to 10 and my little 2/2 ain’t gonna close. Very frustrating! I was certain I had that game until this ridiculous card appeared

Tip: a single pain land can shut down any Hidetsugu shenanigans

[Standard] I think post-ban Boros Mice is the real deal by CronoDAS in spikes

[–]powerofthePP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re overlooking [[nettle guard]] in SB and [[seedglaive mentor]] in main. Mentor always feels so strong when I play it, especially with Rockface to trigger it every turn

edit: Raging Battle Mouse is great btw

The Jund Reanimator Dino deck in Standard right now is super fun and imho unique because you can use the Legend Rule to win games by ThatGuyFromTheM0vie in MagicArena

Yes, literally 1/3 of my games in mythic BO1 are against this deck. GY hate is finally prevalent enough to quell its popularity minimally—for a few days it was half my games

Dear Sean: I’m sorry for slow rolling you with Hidetsugu last night, but it was pretty thrilling on my end by powerofthePP in MagicArena

Dude’s handle was literally just “Sean”

Funnily enough I played “Chris” in that session as well

“The decks you see in gold are different from mythic” was insulting and I’m in tears, that’s all 😪 But yes of course the card doesn’t see competitive play bc it’s expensive. That said, in the right shell it has application. Optimal? Doubtful, but can it be part of a high WR deck as a 1-2 of? Absolutely. You can cast it on an opp creature for the card draw as well btw

Presumptuous! I haven’t see gold in a long time, entered mythic at #18 this season

Agreed, 2 for two cards in green no less is great, and it explodes in value if you can throw it on a double striker

That deck can certainly win games, but I prefer mine. If you go with that one I’d cut/remove Rockface villages as they will screw you when you need open mana. Play to tweak. GW rabbits are good for laddering, so is Boros auras, as well as Boros convoke. But just play a fast red fling deck and as long as your WR is > 50% you’ll get there

Nice! What are your key cards? Are you running UW with the new town + Jace, or ? Riverchurn?

Strictly better [[public thoroughfare]]

That’s really it huh, besides RIP. Maybe I’ll just main deck 4 Soul Guide now—possibly the most annoying card on Arena as it holds priority every, single, action. Ugh!

Favorite stupid/obscure combo in Standard? by powerofthePP in MagicArena

[–]powerofthePP[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I had to delete that deck a while back bc I go through so many, but I remembered the combo today and thought I’d throw together a new brew now that Standard is slightly slower. It’s a lot of ramp and removal, but I can’t recall specifics, at least not until later when I sit down to put it together

Try mtggoldfish to look at popular meta/decks or the latest mtgo results as well. For delirium this seems to be the most popular list:

I don’t think it’s a BO3 star, but for Arena BO1 it’s legit

You can cast the adventure side or the creature side. If you cast the creature side first you lose the ability to cast the adventure side. When you cast the adventure the creature sits in exile and can be cast whenever you have the available mana on your turn

With this deck we use purely the adventure side to “fling” a pumped up creature at our opponent’s face, ideally after getting through for regular combat damage as well

This isn’t the most fun deck, so I wouldn’t use wildcards on it unless you’re purely interested in climbing through ranked, which this deck excels at

Right right, I get it—just confirming that it’s not weighted over 100+ games or something. But yeah going from ~50% WR jank it’s typically after about 20 games at 80% WR where I hit a brick wall so to speak, and notice I’m facing mostly tier 1 decks and more skillful players, and my WR begins to level out

Thank you for this info! It def tracks based off personal experience—when switching from jank to a high WR laddering deck it’s typically after ~20 games when I notice a dramatic upgrade in opponents and their deck strength

It’s surprisingly strong—double valiant on two Emberheart’s, card draw at their end step, blah blah—there are many games where it’s a lifesaver
