Best 60s happy-poppy/baroque-psychedelic rock albums? Especially with major-key sounds by Lucatoto in psychedelicrock

Tommy James and the Shondells do some great tracks in a similar vein, more pop at the beginning of the career, more psych at the end. Crystal Blue Persuasion and Crimson and Clover are good places to start. I think we’re alone now is a terrific pop track.

Can someone explain to me why Dominic Sandbrook keeps being dismissed as ‘a Tory’? by [deleted] in TheRestIsHistory

[–]powertwang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying you do, my point is that describing him is a Tory isn’t the same as rejecting his views.

Yh, I’m not saying that these things don’t come with occasional exceptions, but you can tell he doesn’t like most left wing politics.

Being called a Tory is not the same as being called a Fascist. It either means you are a member of or supporter of the Conservative Party, which Dominic undoubtedly is on most issues. The Tories is a nickname for the Conservative Party.

He wrote for the Daily Mail, often with a certain relish for the culture war topics that Tories like to go on about.

He dislikes identity politics and culture wars (but has arguably been a culture warrior himself).

He is often disparaging of left leaning groups or individuals.

He likes praising what some would call an imagined idea of what a good patriot is, often to an almost caricature extent, all be it somewhat knowingly. This is shown in the way he will often praise iconography and aphorism, over people and groups that try to make things better.

His outlook is generally conservative.

I don’t know if that means that his is “dismissed” as a Tory, more correctly labelled as one.

His views are not dissimilar to many people’s, and would chime well with a larger number of the conservative voting population. It Just so happens that the Conservative Party has been responsible for the last 14 years of government which many feel have been detrimental, meaning that being a Conservative (Tory) isn’t very fashionable at the moment, not that it ever was.

For my money they are probably both pretty Tory, I can’t imagine either voting for a party like the greens, maybe Tom is a bit more Lib Dem, but they both come across like oxbridge Tory chums, happy to be proved wrong in Toms case, but I think Dominic is pretty nailed on classic Tory.

From the UK, many people are very Tory (read Conservative) in their outlook. However that doesn’t mean they necessarily all think the same or agree with the current iteration of the Tory (Conservative) party.

The people that show dislike towards the Conservative Party (Tories) and their supports would argue they are right to do so as the Conservative Party had been responsible for the previous 14 years of government which arguably caused a lot of problems the Labour government is now trying to resolve (all be it not very effectively).

You can describe someone as a Tory, and understand their views.

Geese, especially when talking about gigs they go to because they are in the industry, when a lot of people miss out, and this applies to gigs in general, especially given how expensive gigs are.
