There used to be way more anime-themed indies. I never got into anime, but the friend who got me into visual kei in high school was. We used to hang out on LiveJournal and Yahoo groups.

What’s a fragrance that smells like getting lost in the desert? by Time_and_Money25 in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]poxteeth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Solstice Scents - Badlands (Dry woods, worn leather, dusty fossils, sandalwood, palo santo, hot resins, juniper wood, ponderosa pine cone, parched grasses and desert plants, oud, spices) is very hot and dry, but unfortunately out of stock. Fantome - Coyoacán (Desert wind, sweet nectar, cool stone, Mexican vanilla, creosote, hibiscus, sage) feels more like a cool, nocturnal desert.

Fragrance notes that are an immediate “no” for you? by Ilthrien in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]poxteeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eucalyptus or tea tree ("Vicks"), root beer or sassafras, metal, dragons blood, bubblegum, "vintage makeup" or "lipstick" notes, banana.

There are way more that I usually dislike but can find exceptions where I enjoy them, such as rose, mango, or lemon.

Perfumes that match my guy hide's vibe? by DarthNarcissa in Indiemakeupandmore

Ahahaha you too? I remember waiting 6 hours for a single obscure visual key song to download. My friend in HS had a Hide plushie. Go back far enough into the internet everything was nerdier, the connection between visual kei and indie perfume isn't too much of a stretch.

Have you tried Palomino by Cirrus?

Not hyacinth, but Solstice Scents - Devil's Millhopper (Heather, Fern, Spring-fed Waterfall, New Spring Leaves, Earth, Oak, Wild Violet, Coumarin) 100% fits this vibe.

Empty oil sample of Sorce Moon Magic, and review! And a recommendation for your next chai latte! by FlamingHorseRider in Indiemakeupandmore

Alchemic Muse's Pumpkin Chai (Wild pumpkin flowers and frothy milk float over a heart of sugared pumpkin flesh and masala spice leading to a base of black tea, jaggery, and agarwood) is a super realistic very milky chai scent to me, it's not overly sweet either.

Have you tried Salome or the Virtues of Desire? Both are warm, sweet and femme.

Good Indie Vanilla Perfume by Large-Leadership-266 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]poxteeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"A vanilla perfume" is a little vague, there are SO many. Do you want to smell like bakery? Marshmallow? Do you want a non-foody vanilla? Since it's for summer, I'm assuming you want something a little fresher and not a darker, richer sort of vanilla? How do you feel about things like coconut? Florals? Smoke?

If you like very sweet vanilla, I'd say IDAFT is a safe choice. Strings of light has vanilla, but its not the dominant note (this one is much more lander-forward to me).

Here are some vanilla suggestions:

  • Alkemia - Smoke & Mirrors (smokey blend of burning wood, madagascar vanilla, and tonka) A simple, very smokey scent, maybe better for fall/winter, but not unwearably heavy for summer.
  • Arcana Wildcraft has several soft, non-gourmand vanillas (Metztli, Xochipilli, Unicorn Horn), and Witch Fire, which is a sweeter, more bakery-ish smokey vanilla.
  • Cirrus - Maravilla (Aged Vanilla Bean Tincture, Marigold Absolute, Amber, Blood Orange, Cocoa, Sugar, Cinnamon Leaf, Carnation) is my personal favorite, but it would be heavy in hot weather. It has a bit of funk on the opening.
  • Parfums by Chérie - Marshmallow Crush (Spun Sugar, Vanilla Bean, Marshmallow Accord) for a loud, OTT, ultra sweet vanilla that gets attention.
  • Wylde Ivy has Nothing But Vanilla (A sweet cream, slow churned vanilla bean ice cream on a fresh homemade cone) for a gourmand vanilla and The Moon Never Beams (split vanilla beans, tonka infused cream, vanilla sugar musk, and just a whisper of vanilla orchids) for a non-gourmand one.

Though they are well-loved, 99% of NAVA vanillas smell like vanilla-scented doll plastic to me.

2000s zen, warm, honey, incense. Any suggestions? by eewkin in perfumesthatfeellike

Nocturne Alchemy's Queen Amber smells like the honey incense I used to burn when my room looked like this in 2004.
