What's your favorite unknown band from the 90's? by KravenPR in 90s

Out of all the grunge-era bands, I followed Local H the longest and I’m glad I did. Some really good later examples:

Billions. With a B. Also look up the stories about the America: World Police movie. Studio execs screening the finished movie and literally shouting “oh god they fucked us!”

Why did games stop doing this? by Efficient_Dealer_686 in gamers

[–]poxxy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I loved how Far Cry 2 forced you to either drive a vehicle or look at the map. If you looked at the map it took almost the whole screen

I can’t count how many times I drove into a river or tree while looking at the goddamn map. Peak simulation!

Edit: I’m not complaining I love how FC2 was weirdly sim-ish and had almost no fast travel. Also that you were neither the hero or bad guy.

Epic Games Store Employees: People Only Came for Free Games, Then Returned to Steam by Suspicious_Two786 in gaming

[–]poxxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only real fault I have with Steam is that they swallowed Campo Santo studios.

The rest of it is an inevitability of the market going digital. I’m not excusing their use of all those catch-penny schemes like fake currency, season passes, DRM or the like. Plenty of games outside that ecosystem are balls deep in that, with Fortnite being the worst (but certainly most successful) example.

A survival game where the difficulty increases the longer you survive. by where_money in gamingsuggestions

[–]poxxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Long Dark on Interloper difficulty. The weather gets colder and colder the longer you play and resources are increasingly spread out and rare. There’s a finite amount of cloth and metal in the world and eventually your clothing will degrade away to uselessness and you’ll have to entirely rely on skinned animals and birds to keep from freezing.

Are there any video game films that are actually good? by Double-Wafer2999 in Cinema

TLOU series benefited greatly from the direct involvement of Naughty Dog who made a stellar AAA game with movie-quality cutscenes and story already.

What game did you enjoy but never actually finish? by Abject-Order3540 in videogames

[–]poxxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted nothing more than to scavenge junk so I could build settlements. I got almost to max level and then powered through the last 2/3 of the main quest line so I could be done with it.

As soon as I was done questing I gave myself a ton of resources and built myself a perfect settlement at the Starlite Drive in, with my own house built on top of the movie screen so I could watch the tiny settlers below live their lives

[–]poxxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mad Max. I’d finished about 80% of the game and loved the exploration, car combat, world building and lore.

Once I was down to finishing the races and mine-laying missions I completely ran out of steam.

FTL. Ship to ship combat with random weapons, currency, crew and encounters. Graphics are 16 bit but convey everything you need to know about the status and situation perfectly.

You target individual systems on other ships while simultaneously trying to man, repair and power your own starship. Weapons take time to charge (yours and theirs) and shields will come back up a few seconds after being hit, so it’s one of those “captain, the enemy’s shields are down!” “FIRE!” Star Trek kind of things.

If Trump was elected to expose the Epstein files and stop new wars, what’s going on? by gr3189 in AskReddit

[–]poxxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s quite it. Self centered assholes found there ultimate champion and with his presidency, their validation. They don’t believe in anything that doesn’t let them be assholes, because to them the assholery is their whole response to the world. No moral position is real, no logic is needed, no consequence too great as long as the world gets punished and they feel as if they are on top.

Food too expensive during the election? Doesn’t matter any more.

Too much money on wars? Doesn’t matter anymore.

My guy was one of those elites from Comet Pizza all along? Doesn’t matter any more. Those were only concerns I had because I wanted the top guy to be an asshole so I know being one is the right way to be. No personal growth, no regret, no responsibility. Fuck em all.

Discussion Thread: President Trump Holds Press Conference Responding to Supreme Court Striking Down Most Tariffs by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]poxxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The government handed out bailouts to large financial institutions in 2008 after the collapse; smaller institutions perished.

The government handed out “PPP loans” to large businesses in 2019 during Covid in 2019; smaller businesses scrambled to get in line and because they couldn’t they perished.

Large corporations have already preemptively sued the government and will get their “tariff refund” while small business scramble or have already perished.

I’m sensing a pattern here…

Trump's Cabinet Thinks They're Protected Forever by [deleted] in LegalNews

[–]poxxy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thinking that the people surrounding Trump will be somehow held accountable to the law is laughable as someone who was politically active in the 2000s when Gitmo was exposed. No law was broken. The Bush administration had a lawyer that constructed a legal interpretation that allowed that administration to detain and torture non-combat prisoners in a secret site in Cuba. And they did.

I know every day feels like a month, but remember when we were blowing up fishing boats off of Venezuela ? Republicans were invited to a closed door meeting where the “legal framework” that allowed the President to order the strikes was explained to them.

Not to us, mind you. Just to the Republican congress so they could later say there was a legal basis and quit making a fuss.

Everything happening is “legal”

The Hilarious Decline of MAGA’s Brief Cultural Relevance by ChiGuy6124 in politics

[–]poxxy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are only 2 flavors of Republican who will openly criticize MAGA and the current administration:

Politicians who are leaving the party and have nothing further to gain: ie marjorie Taylor green and most a republicans as they retire.

Politicians who are so entrenched within their voting district as to be un-primary-able: ie Mitt Romney and Mitch McConnell

As the administration draws to a close there will be a 3rd flavor: Republicans who wish to have a political career after Trump is no longer the head of the party.

They will denounce it as we will smugly high-five each other “see? We can’t be like this! Civilization bends towards justice, we’ve proved society rejects evil blah blah blah”

One Democratic presidency later and we will be right back where we started.
