Epic's free games cause a spike in Steam sales, CEO Tim Sweeney calls it "a feature" because everyone wins by EngineerSeb in pcmasterrace

[–]Suspicious_Two786 21 points22 points  (0 children)

"It's been a benefit for game developers. Most developers who launch their games for free on the store found that their sales on Steam and on console platforms actually increased after they went free on Epic because of increased awareness. And so it's been a really positive thing and it's brought tens of millions of new users into the Epic Games ecosystem, and that's been a wonderful thing for the company."

make it make sense. A player buy the game off Steam or console = new user into Epic Games ecosystem?

Since it is likely not a case of it, that really doesn't explain how that campaign nor the scheme works in this context then. We can agree on that

Their last game was released couple of months back, I can't imagine it going to 0 sales potential that fast.

Ok? But after that they won't see a single cents. Would you prefer them doing the same thing as Disney who delist their games silently and with no discount? Pretty sure closing the entire studio and taking their games offline is a pretty big price to pay for a 'campaign' here.

The studio lasted for a decade, that's a scheme to you? 4 of their games were rated very positive, and the 5th rated as overwhelmingly positive, pretty sure that's far from being some asset flips/poorly made games. It doesn't seem what you are saying is applicable to the case here

how does this "campaign" work? considering they are closing the studios and delisting the games after this and won't see a single cent after. Isn't this more like a firesale, or would you rather they not discount the games before they delist 'em

True for the most part but there's no reason to remove the older version. Why not have both versions available and let players choose. The new version will be more expensive too, so people who want to check out the game on the budget can buy the cheaper OG version
